We have to convince them we are not. How can we do that? By not being racist, for one.
Also, by actually caring about and talking about issues that matter to them
yea ok white bread,, whateva,, maybe some blacks are actually smart enough to understand issues, after all, your "compassionate conservative" spiel worked so well last time.

As an educated black conservative, I hope you guys don't mind if I chime in even though I am not a regular contributor to this board.
Recruiting more African Americans into the Republican party is going to be a challenge. The mindset I find that differentiates my fellow black conservatives and my liberal friends is that my conservative friends are much more willing to insist the problems within our community are brought on by ourselves. My liberal friends tend to blame the system or blame someone for their issues.
Becoming a Black Conservative is about questioning the "status quo" within the black community. For every unfortunate situation where a cop kills a young black man, we have 10 young black men killing other young black men. Our unemployment rates are twice white America because our kids aren't as well educated as white kids. There are many other issues but if you challenge the "status quo" then you are opposing the community and seen as "not black enough"
If you are interested in learning more about this topic take a look at Jason Riley's "Please Stop Helping Us" . Cover in-depth many issues surrounding the black community and how liberals hold back the black community.
Before Black Conservatives can change the mindset of Black America, black america must be willing to accept opposing viewpoints.

lol, you actually have a point, though you have no idea why, blacks are figuring out the lies of their Dem plantation masters, but it's not due to the Repukes, it's due to the massive failure in the White House.

Of course they are. And they still won't vote for people who they believe are racist.

the future of the party is convincing people that freedom and liberty are important. the party needs to restore the notion that America is a grand idea and get people to believe in themselves and not the need to rely on government.
otherwise, the experiment is over.
otherwise, the experiment is over.

That was a thoughtful and well argued point...
Who are you and what have you done with the real Killz?
Joking aside some excellent points brought up in this thread. The Republican party does need to reach out to the black community more. The black community needs to stop being its own worst enemy.
Electing fellow blacks to office based solely on the color of their skin has done nothing to improve the social and economic status of African Americans. Obama, for example, interjects himself into racially charged situations, scores a few political points, and then quietly disappears without ever having actually done anything.
The future of the Republican party is working minorities. Middle class Africans, Latinos, and Asians are going to be increasingly important in elections. Minorities need to remove themselves from under the thumb of the Democrats, who take them for granted, and Republicans need to compete for those votes.

Alan Keyes didn't fare so well.

The last time the House had this many republicans, democrats were upfront about how racist they really are.

Why are many on here confusing the OP and associating it with failed black candidates for President that were republicans.
It only solidifies what many of us believe and that's libs and dems think that blacks will only follow a republican if they're black. You guys are your own worst enemy and don't even realize it.
See last nights results.

I used to think like you and then I got everything explained to me by a black professor (a friend, not my teacher).
The issue we're missing is the private sector economy vs. the public sector economy. The majority of whites are employed in the private sector...banks, car dealerships, investment firms, etc. The majority of blacks are employed in the public sector ... teachers, city hall, the DMV, etc.
Expansive govt = more jobs for blacks. The Dems are the party of expansive govt. So, you see it's not just blacks on welfare that are voting in their own interests.

If we had more leaders who shared your view points, this country would be so much better off.

As much as many on the right look at it as pandering, what Rand Paul is doing needs to be launched full scale by competent truly conservative leaders of the republican and libertarian parties.
The issue I see is that Rand is an extremely intelligent individual that doesn't fall into traps that are neatly laid out for him that many would fall for and create more harm than good.
It's truly difficult to make inroads in the black community because the unions and democratic leaders fence them off so effectively.
If there were more open and honest discussion in the black communities, then we would see a much more representative sample IMO. It wouldn't ebb and flow like normal demographics but it certainly wouldn't be the 95% we see going in one direction repeatedly over and over.
I think that republicans truly need to work on making education a priority for the good of these inner cities, work on solutions to the problems for the good of the individuals, and this would lead to a more educated black electorate which would help them leaps and bounds. It's a win, win.
