Or the primadonnas can just STFU and appreciate being in a country where they get paid millions to play a frickin' game. No one gives a shite about a cause being protested by over-privileged twats.

Although nice to see them bend the knee and stand for the anthem like real men, these spoiled atheletes are still forcing politics wrapped around false a bullshite narrative and one that I'm frankly sick of.

How can we have had a half black president yet still live in a country that oppresses black people?

It's complete and utter bullshite.

Honestly, the 'right" way is to not conduct political protests on company time in front of your customers.

But, we have just enough morons in America who can't understand that reality.

The "right" way is to run your company as you see fit.

Maybe the "smart" way is what you meant.

I can live with the "smart" way.

I just can't even believe that's not obvious. Especially toa league that is so fricking anally retentive, it won't let you put your area code or some biblical reference in your eye black.

Like I said in other threads. I'd fire the frick out of one of my gig mates if he insisted on professing some conservative view on gig nights.

The problem I see for the league is that when you couple the fact that they've always been the "zero individualism" league with them not engaging in fines here, then the league really can't play the whole "players represent themselves" card.

The league has definitively taken a position. Hell. They opposed emblems supporting police officers just last year.

Will them taking a position against a substantial portion of their fans hurt them? I'm sure that argument will go on for some time.

But, there is really no avoiding that the league has in fact said, "well, we've always said don't do shite that pisses off some fans........but........well.........ok.......except for those fans".

Seems an unwise move.

We should hope the rest of the league leaves politics completely out of the game.

My biggest problem with the NFL, and it isn't limited to the NFL, is the hypocrisy. The way they've handled several situations (Brady, Rice, Zeke) is a joke, and removes all serious consideration of their ability to make decisions.

More on point, I don't remember seeing the national anthem that often before this shite started. I don't watch the NFL that much any more, but didn't they used to take that opportunity to go to commercial more often than not? Now, they have Jordin Sparks out there singing it before a week 3 game that isn't that good.

Right. They protested a fictitious, coercive, false and unproven narrative in the correct way. Whole lotta capitulating and arse kissing here. Jones is keeping his little profit centers happy.

Which rules? The NFL's rules, or your grandma's?

This is absolutely another problem they have.

And, it also sure makes it appear that they WANT to rub it in the noses of the fans that have an issue with it.

Which, again, is just fricking odd business.

They certainly appear to be trying to highlight the controversy. Very strange.

And, it can't help but be taken as a "frick you" message.

I don't think in my entire lifetime, I've seen a company with a diverse customer base do such a thing.

I'm surprised they're taking time away from advertising revenue to do it.

ESPN isn't going to miss the opportunity to make sports political. You can only talk about stats and highlights so much with 16 versions of the same channel.

I look at the NFL long term as a business and there are some factors that are working against it.
1. I sit in the stands for college games and 98% of the fans are white, middle/upper middle class.
2. 10 years ago, those fans cheered for largely anonymous figures. Oh, we knew they were mostly kids not like us, but, barely noticed.
3. With Social media, the reality that you're cheering for a lot of people you really don't even like is laid bare.
4. Many middle/upper middle whites aren't letting their kids play football.
5. People who never played may be fans, but they are FAR less dedicated fans.
6. The above means that your primary customer base in terms of $$$ is also a customer base that is going to become less dedicated over time.

I don't know how that all plays out over the next 20 years. But, that's a lot of headwind that if I were running the business, I wouldn't be thinking up ways to add to it.
