And artistic expression has nothing to do with not writing concisely. You can still be "artistic" and write concisely. They're not mutually exclusive concepts. I'm not being a dick to the OP. He asked for general recommendations about his writing.
eta: for OP's clarity...concise means toss most of the fluff. Good writing = you use varying sentence lengths depending on the idea/point you're trying to get across.
