Welfare made people dependent on the government for a meager lifestyle while at the same time removing the incentive (hunger) to work harder and make more money.

I would also blame the acceptance of births out of wedlock and single parent families for these problems. Raising a child is a lot of work and even more so if there is only one parent.

Walking out of a fast food joint today and overheard a girl ... "girl" meaning probably under 30 ... talking about her babies, 3 boys and 3 girls. That's 6 kids if you were educated pre Common Core. And I don't know if baby daddies are anywhere to be found, but she wasn't paying for those kids.

it's a crisis that nobody cares about.

There are plenty who care about it, but the problem is that when its brought up many want to pivot to the ultimate cause being slavery.

While a case can be made for it, it's little more than a strawman that is ultimately useful only as a history lesson. Those that focus on this point do themselves and the black community a grave disservice as nothing can nor will change history. Ever.

The real culprit is the War on Poverty coming at a time before the black community was able to find its way to financial stability after the changes from the Civil Rights movement. That puts the onus back more on the black community and the War on Poverty itself. For some reason many find that distasteful (or at least not as expedient as blaming slavery/wypipo).
