Besides Abbott, the rest of the TX GOP was not very popular with the voters: Cruz, Patrick, Paxton, Geo P. Bush. My US Rep is Roger Williams and he did not win all that handily.

The left is coming for Cornyn’s senate seat. Who will they put up? One of the Castro Bros? Beta re-do?

Who are the next gen rising stars of the TX GOP? Will Hurd? Michael McCaul? Christi Craddick?

Cornyn isn’t as controversial as Cruz. He should win pretty easy.

Cornyn will be fine.

It was a straight ballot ticket and that’s what you saw. There is nobody in this world that can tell me honestly they knew a thing about Lupe Valdez and she got within 13% of Abbott.

Have to admit, I'm not too broken up about that.

Maybe, but I never thought Beta would only lose by <3% either. The libs here are salivating.

Meh, Cruz is an easily unlikable Senator for anyone who isn't staunchly conservative. Beto's cult of personality, plus his huge cash injections from out of state, were the perfect storm to make it a tight race. And at the end of the day, that's all it turned out to be was a tighter than expected race.

Demographics in the state are certainly changing and R's need a much better strategy with Latino voters(who actually have a lot more principles in common with conservatives than liberals), but a mid-term Senate seat battle like this will still be pretty rare here IMHO

People are overestimating the importance of this single election. Beto was lightning in a bottle and Cruz is extremely unlikable. That affected the entire election in the whole state.

In 2020 there will be no Beto, no Cruz, and Trump on the ballot.

Honestly Cruz did a lot of damage to himself with his stunt at the RNC. He acted like a complete arse and lost some voters permanently. This is only part of the story but nevertheless is part.

The one thing that I will say about most dems in Harris County is that they aren't the dems of NY and California. They are much more mainstream. Will they continue to move farther and farther left?? Who knows.

Trump wasn't on the ballot to pull in more support and Beto had to have Hollywood and a frickTON of money to help him lose. This isn't to say that the Texas GOP doesn't need to shore themselves up, but it does mean that things aren't that bad when looking at the full context.

I would agree with this statement as it relates to the older Latino demographic. Young latinos, not as much.

That's good to know. Travis county dems are in a class all by themselves, but it's what I see regularly.

I get what you're saying. I think it's a little bit the same with young people of all demos though.

I thought about doing that, but I worried that some whack D would get in. I figured those races would be closer this time.

I just hope the Texas idiots won’t move to Louisiana and try to make it a liberal shithole like Texas

My boys are always getting in trouble spouting off about D candidates at school. My boy told some kid who was oozing about Beto that he bet he couldn't name one of Beto's policies, that the kid was only going around saying Beto because his parents told him to.
