Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is expected on Thursday to introduce legislation to limit public restroom access for transgender people, despite warnings from a business group that the measure would hurt the Texas economy because it was discriminatory.

Patrick, a Republican conservative Christian who guides the legislative agenda in the state Senate, has said his proposed "Privacy Protection Act" is a top legislative priority for the second most populous U.S. state.

The bill is one of several on tap for state legislatures this year that socially conservative backers say offer common sense protections against sexual predators. Critics say there is no evidence of that and the laws are designed to infringe on the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Patrick's office has not released details of the bill, but he has been a supporter of only allowing access to public restrooms based on gender at birth rather than the gender with which a person identifies.

So stupid and such a waste of time and money. There are way more important things than this.

wonder when they are going to limit pastors and priest from being around children...after all they molest and rape more children than transgenders.

Maybe Louisiana can grab some of the NCAA Championship events that Texas is going to lose.

This is dumb. Make it stop. We don't need government interference into this. This has not been an issue for hundreds of years and it is not now. Damn.

Ugh.

Is this really an issue?

That said:

frick this. If TX thinks this is a good idea then they can tell everyone to stuff it.

common sense protections against sexual predators.

How would his infringe on the rights of these groups? This is just tribal politics.

This whole discussion is stupid. It's a solution looking for a problem.

If that means that every Big 12 championship event is moved out of Texas and every college football game in AT&T Stadium and NRG Stadium is cancelled, I'm for it.

The coming out party of Trans folks has made this more difficult but it's still manageable.

1- if you are trans - don't change out in the open in the wrong bathroom/locker room. In other words, don't subject granny or little girls to your penis.

2- pee where you want when you don't have to display your bits

3- everyone else do what you've been doing and probably never noticed it.

No law needed. Just common sense.

If half the states did this, how would boycotts work? Boycott half of the US? Not going to happen. Too much money involved.

To be fair, a woman who decides to cut her hair short and may look a bit more manly can be accused of being transgender. This typically, but not always, is a lesbian style/look.

It's a bloody stupid and slippery slope for Republicans. Every manly looking woman being barred from going to the bathroom? Because their hair is short and they have small chests? Imagine your daughter came up to you and told you they told her she had to use the boy's room because she looks like a boy.

This is SO DAMN STUPID.

For the record. I think we should get rid of gender based bathrooms in favor of sexual organ based bathrooms. Instead of a mens restroom you have a penis restroom and get rid of the womens restroom in favor of the vagina restroom.

And this bill would not affect her one bit.

This is just Fundies on one side and LGBTQYDNGHEISGH&S$^@*s on the other. Reason and common sense are not in play.
