I see threads and posts saying that the government should shut down for weeks, months, or even a year, and that federal workers are lazy and a drain on taxpayers. I’m conservative, so I can see the waste that’s happening. However, I’m also a federal “essential” employee as an air traffic controller with the FAA, and I think this is the narrowest and laziest thinking imaginable. I’m supposed to be fine without getting paid for these weeks and months, but I’m also expected to continue my work in helping to run the busiest airspace in the world? I’m just shocked at the blanket prejudice that’s thrown towards federal employees here. We aren’t all parasites.

So you’re looking at it how it affects you personally then.

Why are you more important than everyone else?

Because shut down means that they can’t spend money anymore, money that they don’t have and they can’t burrow form China.

Don't you get paid in arrears once it starts back up, whether you were working or not?

Maybe our debt will go up 100k every 10 seconds instead of every 5 or so seconds.

Well 3 reasons

1- a lot of waste is in our government and they could cut spending back to 2022 (or earlier levels) we run a $1.5T defecit and are $33.1T in debt

2- We all know the theatre will stop in about a week maybe 2 max and there will be another increase in spending

3- You will get paid for the time you work during the shutdown, heck some will get paid for not working. So you will be ok.

All non essential workers are getting a free vacation. When the governemnt is refunded, all furloughs are given backpay like always, same amount of money, but less productivity in the end, so that a couple of politicians can spew some bullshite and make a name for themselves, and some completely unaware citizens think their incompentant representitive did some battling of the waste machine.

Just one more example of how dumb our country is ran. We have a bunch of fkn morons who haven't managed anything successful in their lives on both sides of the aisle.

Fock the airports .....is air travel more important then this nation going bankrupt and all of us losing our money when the dollar crashes...

And when we can't go to a community hospital that are treating millions of illegal aliens for free....

Close the borders Congress or the tax payers will vote all you GOP Rhinos out of office...

How many plane crashes happen in France,Canada,or Australia?

The equivalent of their FFA is privatized.

Same shite should happen in America.

The budget was already passed. This is a CR to maintain the already passed appropriation of funds.

This is like, you have a cc problem, so instead of taking the card away or restructuring your budget, you just delete your bank account info.

Nobody said you're all parasites. And I wouldn't work for no pay if I was you. So don't go in.

Yes, we want it shut down. All of it. For as long as possible. And then to open it back up should be a budget that doesn't borrow a dime and includes a way to start paying down our debt.

But we're not going to get any of that. Sooooooo, burn it down.

Oh boo hoo. You know you will get the back pay. My son is in an essential role and is still expected to deploy at a moments notice and go put his and his team's dicks on the line. You have to show up and try to keep airplanes from getting to close to one another. boo hoo.

You know that you get paid for all of your work when it's over. So, that might make you a liar.

If you live paycheck to paycheck and the later pay won't help you then you're stupid.

Congress can pass a CR for all or just some of the appropriations bills.
CRs can increase or decrease funding and can include “anomalies,” which adjust spending in certain accounts to avoid technical or administrative problems caused by continuing funding at current levels, or for other reasons.

I have to admit - I don't know a lot about how they screw us, but it still sounds like they spent more than they have.

If the budget was passed why do they need a CR unless the money ran dry?

ETA:

Despite the obvious drawbacks to short-term funding measures, they’re commonplace in Congress. With a few exceptions, at least one has been enacted almost every fiscal year since 1977, with the exceptions of 1989, 1995, and 1997. That means Congress has failed to pass a budget by October 1 almost every year for 45 years.
