They decided the issue was moot without examining the merits since this challenge was based on the now replaced ban. So let's keep in mind that there is still a lot of legal wrangling to go on this topic.

Why would the SCOTUS even review this case? A travel ban isn't violating anyone's constitutional rights.

My only regret is that the District Court judge from Hawaii wasn't publicly slapped down for deciding that President Trump's temporary immigration ban constituted a violation of the Establishment Clause.

His opinion is so gloriously stupid it needed to be put on a pedestal and ridiculed in the annals of legal history.

I stated the facts. Make of it what you will, but there is even another case currently before the SCOTUS (that will likely get the same treatment). I just want to be clear about what this means versus what it doesn't mean.

Puh-leeze, call it what it really is: Democrat obstruction and obfuscation.

I'm just here stating the facts. I think it will be upheld, but this decision isn't really remarkable

Wrong. The vast majority of legal and constitutional scholars view the travel ban as 100% legal and constitutional.

However in this day and age it's very easy to judge shop and get a lower court ruling to say anything you want.

The lower court judges are embarrassing themselves with their petty activism, everyone knows Trump is going to win on the travel ban 100% because the #resist is politically motivated and left wing activist judges can only stall the inevitable.

Great, that all still means this is going to be going back through another months long round of working its way up the court system. Then SCOTUS could very well just punt it on another procedural ground. These things usually don't ever get wrapped up too cleanly.

Most do, vast majority is an overstatement though

Annnnnnnd the picking up of the case to automatically dismiss it on a technicality wasn't a statement in of itself?

Not in particular. This ruling on mootness doesn't really set any significant new precedent. Given that new challenges to the new ban were already in the court system, it more just clarifies which cases are important.

My money is still on the SCOTUS punting it on a technical or procedural ground effectively letting the EO run its course or upholding it.
