LSU doesn't help at all and neither did the BRGH.

It will give sheriff more time to spend in areas like gardere,

Nothing left but plank road or florida blvd
I'm serious, how old are you?

No more arrogance on your part.
First you told Wee Wee to GF and now you act like I posted off topic because you are some kind of thread bully.
The facts are clear all of these annexations are increasing the load for BRPD and BRFD. It's lessening the load for SG Fire (but taking taxes away) and lessening the load on the sheriff.
And CATS comes out smelling like a rose as their revenues increase from all these annexations.
But you don't want to comment on that because you know that people in the city who aren't being properly served now might suffer.

I'd be shocked if the Baton Rouge city government would approve annexation of the LSU properties in isolation from the other request for annexation. They generate no property tax revenue, minimal sales tax revenue, and they incur costs to provide services to the properties. However, the Metro Council will be unlikely to deny the request knowing it would alienate the residents of East Baton Rouge Parish living outside of Baton Rouge city limits. Smart move by the leaders of LSU to petition while they have a chance of being approved.
It fascinating to watch the political maneuvering going on. The winners and losers in the short term are pretty obvious, but will they remain the same in the long term? I think actions such as these will drive more people with school age children to the surrounding parishes.

I guess it's a good thing that the whole St. George issue is about quality schools, and not a land grab.
And i thought LSU was part of BR anyway. Exactly what are the BR limits? Plank road to Jefferson?

It's the South Campus requesting annexation.

Oh. Well yeah, that does nothing but extend BRPD and BRFD's responsibility. Guess that will mean more taxes for the BR folk to pay for the extended service and for BRPD's new headquarters.

It's a bizarre looking map, and getting more and more bizarre.
Places you would logically think are out of the city (Town Center, Shaw Building) and places you would think would be out of the city are now getting in the city (L'Aberge, Ben Hur "plantation lands".)

This revenue grab by the city of Baton Rouge should piss off the residents of Baker, Central, Zachary and the unincorporated areas. It increases the funds available to city of Baton Rouge at the expense of the East Baton Rouge Parish government. Will the Metro Council members be held accountable by the non-Baton Rouge residents for screwing them over to benefit Baton Rouge residents? The next Mayor of Baton Rouge may be a nonresident of Baton Rouge.

I agree, people need to be paying attention.

It is high time to start looking at "unconsolidating" EBR government. Maybe this model made sense half a century ago, when most of the land outside the EBR city limits was undeveloped.
All this trouble because the state legislature wants to protect EBR School Board, the worst school system in the state. All these groups wanting in, wanting out, the city having to provide more services, the parish less, movement of tax money, etc.
All to protect the worst school system in the state.

Did you really think the city was just going to roll over and take it up the arse while this group gobbled up a good share of the land and the population in the parish and became the 3rd or 4th largest city in the state?

Except this money was pretty much going to fund the city anyway. They just had the non-incorporated areas pay for the entire parishwide expenses freeing up "city" funds to be spent on "city" items. Things shouldn't feel too different to Baker, Central and Zachary.
Now you could make a case that the previous funding arrangement was unfair; but that's a different argument.

Gobbled up? How is SG incorporating property any different than the city annexing them?
At least SG is taking the residents, including the poor, along with the properties. BR is just revenue grabbing.

Because even before Baton Rouge annexes them, they are still part of the city-parish government. They have the same metro-council and the same mayor before and after. They would have to pay some additional taxes, and they would get some additional services after annexation, but they are still under the same entity.
St. George is would not be a sub-unit of the city-parish. It would have it's own mayor and council.
So one is an internal shifting of parts, the other is taking parts from a pre-existing entity.
