The proposed city of St. George sustained another hit Wednesday, when LSU submitted a request to annex its south campus properties into Baton Rouge city limits.

The petition was submitted less than 24 hours after L’Auberge Casino and Hotel, a high-profile revenue generator in the parish, also made known its intentions to join Baton Rouge.

Annexing properties is a tool the city of Baton Rouge has been employing to chip away at both the revenue streams and footprint of the proposed city of St. George, which if successful in its incorporation could divert millions of tax dollars from Baton Rouge coffers into the St. George municipal budget.

From the link in the OP:
quote:

Rainey said while he supports property owners’ rights to annex, he questions whether Baton Rouge officials are too aggressively expanding the size of the city at the expense of public safety.

“Can city police effectively extend law enforcement now to the casino and to the additional land to River Road that’s been annexed?” Rainey said. “Does the fire department have the capability of responding to large-scale events at the casino?”

Lionel Rainey's (The Third) concern for the well-being of the citizens of Baton Rouge is truly heart warming......

actually that is a legit concern. I lived in beau pre off brightside in 2012. There were a lot of break in to cars (including my truck twice) that summer . After the second time I was really pissed and the BRPD said they couldn't spare any officers to do extra patrols through the neighborhood they were stretched thin.

That's just their way of telling you to lock your car and not leave valuables in it IMO.

What do you mean by "extra patrols"? Were the BRPD patrolling your area but you wanted 24/7 patrols?

no they said they were doing nightly patrols and me and a couple of other homeowners and even the HOA (IIRC) wanted them to step it up to 2 or 3 a night.

A 'nightly patrol' is one patrol a night, isn't it?

Old news, someone posted that yesterday.

re: L'Auberge petitions for annexation to Baton Rouge (Posted on 10/8/14 at 3:48 pm to pistolpete23)

LSU's Board of Supervisors has voted to petition BR to have its property south of campus annexed.

(I didn't see a need to start a new thread since we already had the casino annexation thread.)

quote:

LSU has become the latest land owner in the boundaries of the proposed city of St. George asking to have property annexed into Baton Rouge’s city limits.

The LSU Board of Supervisors for LSU submitted a petition for annexation for the campus’s Ben Hur Research Station and its Fire and Emergency Training Institute, both of which are located in the southern part of the parish, west of Nicholson Drive and stretch south to the Mississippi River.

That "someone" was ME. And the article posted yesterday is not the same article I posted in the OP of this thread.

If you had taken the time to read the OP's link, you would have seen the article was updated last night at 7:34 PM. I linked the afternoon version of the article in the other thread at 3:38 PM.

So this thread is NOT old news in spite of your attempt to underplay the news.

The additional information in the updated article warranted its own thread, IMO.

Nonsense.

There never were any legacy costs which were going to be paid voluntarily by St George.

It will take a lawsuit to force SG to pay legacy costs, just like it's going to take a lawsuit to force the city of Central to pay legacy costs.

Sure its old news.

And like I said yesterday, if the keep getting more businesses (LSU didn't hurt it's not a property tax payer) then it will be the end of SG.

I also said yesterday that BRFD, BRPD need to step up. I said it will hurt SG Fire, the sheriff will stay the same, and CATS is a big winner while we keep the same old crap of a school system.

Big City folk like yourself should be happy and I guess that's why you posted the same thing twice.

Ah, that makes more sense. I'm not sure if the police can patrol enough to prevent break ins outside of a 24/7 constant patrol. Thieves can see a car coming and can hide until it's gone. So having a patrol every 4 or 5 hours rather than once a night, well....

I can sympathize with you about being broken into. That's happened to us twice. After the last time I had a security system installed and haven't had any more problems.
