St George leaders avoid answering questions from their constituents

At their proclaimed "public" forum Tuesday night, several questions from St George residents and voters regarding the status of the signature numbers for the petition drive were ignored or avoided by the SG 'leaders.'

One man asked, "how many signatures do we need and when do we need them by?" He directed his question to Dustin Yates and Norman Browning. "We're close," Yates responded.
Another man asked if the effort had at least 14,000 signatures, and the conversation was quickly moved to another person in the crowd with a different question.
"It doesn't matter. We don't have enough. What difference does it make? We don't have enough," Browning told WBRZ News 2.

Looks like the movement is falling apart. With a little better planning and foresight, they could have possibly pulled it off.

There's no reason for them to hide the stats if they were confident that they would get all of the signatures at a certain time.

They said in January they would not release any more numbers. That is their position, strategy, etc. Why would they decide in the middle of a meeting, just because someone asked, to release the current count? That would be pretty stupid.

I have no idea. Maybe they are far below what people believe and don't want it released. Maybe they are far closer than what people believe, and don't want BR leaders beating them to some punch.

The city of BR and the legislature have done everything possible to thwart the movement. St.George would be stupid to give them an exact #, and make strategic moves (by the city) even easier.

And in the end, they will likely be successful. The upshot of which is, people will continue to get fed up and just leave the parish, thus sinking Baton Rouge even deeper into shithole status.
Kip and his cronies on the Metro Council and in the legislature may be able to stop the breakaway, but there isn't a damn thing they can do to stop people from moving.

I think their reason for not disclosing the number of signatures has to do with the law suit that will be filed once they send the petition and signatures to the gov.

And the title of your thread is bullshite Russian, and you know it. That is the ONE question we all knew in advance they won't answer, and for good reason. They fielded questions on all subjects last night, and were very honest and responsive.

There is a strategic thought to not releasing the numbers, if they think that will keep up the pressure. If you are close, then people might think, oh, I don't need to sign it, someone else will.
Plus, if they are smart, they will go a percentage above the needed number, in case some signatures are thrown out. You see this with recall petitions.

Something else to note about all this: annexation by BR of the Mall of Louisiana may look like game, set and match for St. George.
However, it's pretty shortsighted. Once the Juban Crossing development becomes up and operational, that mall is going to become Cortana Mall Redux...more of a liability than an asset. It's penny-wise and pound-foolish.
