WAFB just did an expose' with teachers speaking in anonymity .

There's no way in hell that can be true. Because Russian said:

teacher going to the media to complain, which is what you wrote a teacher should do, is one of the stupidest statements I've ever read on here

Do you really think a teacher complaining about a specific situation like this is going to remain anonymous?

Are you trying to look stupid??? You're doing a good job of it....

I'm the teacher and I'm telling you exactly what happened.

Whether or not you believe it is up to you.

I only relate what happened at my school - this year - with the current administration. It doesn't mean all principals at every school behave like that.

they have themselves to blame for allowing it to continue to happen and for not speaking out.

I spoke out - and I will not be working there next year. Reason #1 given to me: They have to hold my position for a coach - which was a lie.
Reason #2: My observation decreased this semester (well no kidding, since it was the principal who did it).

I will add though - I probably wouldn't have returned anyway because I prefer not to work for people like that.

However, its not really about me or my employment - this is about the students and the integrity of our educational system.

During EOC's, I had a student ask me if it was ok for his/her English teacher to tell him/her not to submit the response until the teacher had a chance to look over it. The teacher told this student what to change in his/her response. I told the student that that type of action during a state EOC test didn't sound right. Student said "I thought so".

Believe it or not. That's up to you.

How do problems like this ever get solved if teachers never speak out beyond the admin that is covering things up?

That depends on what your definition of a "problem" is. Unfortunately, for all too many students, parents, and administrators, that teacher was the problem.

What am I missing here? How is the teacher harmed in this?

Does the teacher benefit from the lower grades?

EOC's are not supposed to be even read by a teacher - in fact, at our school, a teacher was not allowed to administer the EOC exam for the same subject they taught.

Any collusion like that would get the entire EOC exam nullified for everybody and the school would be in a hell of a lot of trouble.

You must have worked at a pretty lawless school. It would take monumental conspiracy to get away with that.

There's more to this story I'm sure. Probably something along the lines of a majority of your students failed their final. ( which says a lot about the teacher.). Principal looked at the grades after many parent and student complaints had to curve students final because they weren't prepared for the test. I'm sure there is something more here unless the principal said you need to bump only certain students grades. Take a look and realize that if you have a low 70 class average, maybe it's the teaching.

Wow, with that mentality you must be a parent of a publi school student, it's always the teachers fault...

So, the teacher is upset that the kids got higher grades than she wanted her to get. Also upset that she lost a bit of of her "power" of her subjects.

Part of a teachers job is to evaluate each students learning. I can assure you the grades I approved were accurate and consistent with each students performance.

"power of subjects" - I guess you assume I'm on some sort of power trip over teenagers? You're wrong. I just expect certain things from students - you know, like turning assignments in on time and students behaving and participating during class. Ridiculous, I know. I'm obviously a tyrant.

Someone who knows that if a class has a D average the material needs to be retaught. I'm sure all the students are thankful when they get to college they will be lacking the basics in Chem 1201.

Typical public school bullshite. And typical public school parents' responses on this board, going after the messenger.

This shite doesn't happen at privates. You follow the rules, make the grades, learn respect, or you're shown the door. I will never understand why someone with the means to do so, doesn't send their children to private schools
