I don't know shite about this election but I'll take Norman for the win. Just a hunch

This seat was held by John Spratt (D) for a long time and then Mick Mulvaney (R). The district runs along the SC/NC border from the Pee Dee Region to the Charlotte suburbs and catches everywhere south of there to Sumter and Columbia.

Outside the Charlotte suburbs, it is a rural and conservative district. Norman should win by 10+ percentage points.

Sounds gerrymandered to hell.

Why does this race not get the attention that GA 6 gets?

because it's not expected to be close and the Dems didn't throw the type of money at this seat that they did in Georgia

Archie Parnell's ad was 10x more engaging than anything Ossoff cut

Lee and Sumter have more in common with the Pee Dee region of SC (high black population and a history of tobacco farming). Union and Cherokee are upstate counties that have little in common with the others in this district. The rest fit culturally and geographically.

Aside from the 2 that spiral around Columbia those look kind of normal.

The island of green surrounded by blue is because of Jim Clyburn (D). The population of that island in Richland County is probably as big as the rest of his district, which is extremely rural, and it is probably 75 percent black. It was gerrymandered to prevent Clyburn from having to campaign in the general election, as his district is over 70 percent black. He's a first class arse.

The African American vote has largely been counted, as 82 percent of Fairfield County and 57 percent of Sumter County is in. Lee County is overwhelmingly African American, but there aren't many people there at all. Only 27 percent of York County has been counted and no precincts from Cherokee or Spartanburg County have been counted. These are the Republican strongholds in the Upstate.

....which actually makes this more of the race to take note of. The GA6 has been skewed ever way possible so this one will likely show possible trends better (than the urban-money-fest).

if they Dems had split their effort between GA & SC they likely could've been at least assured of picking up a seat

Haven't followed either closely. But SCLibertarian has summed it up pretty well.

I just think we might get more meaningful trends from this more normal election. Who showed and how they went... than the pull out all the stops, get out the vote, and damn the money in Georgia.

I really wish Clyburn would head out to the pasture already. We got rid of his local equivalent in Florence. Now he just needs to go.

Norman didn't help himself in the Republican Primary. He won by 200 votes and his opponent focused on Norman's opposition to allowing police and first responders to obtain mental health counseling for PTSD through worker's compensation.

Norman had a logical argument in opposition, but really demeaned law enforcement and first responders in his floor speech during a debate session. In the rural counties, a large percentage of folks, white and black, either work for law enforcement or first responders or have immediate family who do.
