re: Some tough truths for "social conservatives" to swallow

quote:

Again, if their values will start coming from the mindset of supporting liberty and allowing consenting adults to do as they please, I think this is a great thing. And I go to Church every Sunday.

I don't think most social conservatives care what happens between consenting adults in their bed room? I know that I don't care. I think the problem is when that agenda is taken out of the bedroom, given preferential treatment, and one is forced to fund or condone it with his or her taxes.

No denying this was the social norm of that time. And it was wrong.

If your position is correct, then religious belief and thought will (over time) give way to freethinking and rationale thought. You win.

Time (and history) are on your side. Be patient.

wait....you think that legalizing it will lead to gay marriage becoming the "preferred" way of getting married?

No

I keep hearing all this talk of God giving us our rights by religious people

I'm thankful I don't live in a country where rights are determined by religious edict.

I wonder what the gays think about their tax dollars supporting your straight lifestyle. Maybe we should just take the gov't out of marriage altogether? It can then just be a religious ceremony, like Confirmation.

Would you have Obama regulate this board to ensure fairness? Or like most grown adults move along and put this minor frustration behind you?

I would politely suggest going to find a board which meets your criteria for "fairness."

Hi, alter.

No...I'd like the ability to be able to debate issues here on an even footing. To do otherwise is stacking the deck...or cheating if you will. As I am, at heart, not a cheater, I tend to expect the same of others. Now, if you find it ok to allow only one point of view here on what is supposed to be a board in which free and open debate takes place, then kindly acknowledge that.

CURRENT older people might be more likely to be against things like gay marriage and abortion but that doesn't mean that the youth will change on those issues when they're older.

Nobody knows how people are going to vote in the future. And they're always a next generation of young voters who may not be as socially liberal as the current one.

Either way just cause the majority of young people naively and ignorantly embrace moral decay and social decadence is no reason for those of us who do know better to go along with it.

Queerism and Infanticide are not signs of a healthy society but one in decline.

I didn't specify any particular sexual practice and marriage doesn't prevent gays from doing whatever it is they want to do in the bedroom.

Was that meant to be a threat? You've got my mouth watering for some good ol' fashion deregulation!

Remove the government institution of marriage and replace it with what I'd call a benefactor system. Through which, upon a persons death a benefactor would receive all equities, possessions and debts owed, which are not owed to others by legal document or contract. Only one benefactor would be able to be named because of monetary complications otherwise.

Polling data suggests that if it were put to a popular vote in 2012 it would have went the other way FWIW

Polling data does not mean shite. I'm talking about actual results. The PEOPLE voted and government said they were wrong.

Did governement overstep their power in this case? Yes, and they continue to do so.

Hi, alter.

who is alter?

I can understand that. I've just come to appreciate a world where there are multiple options available to all. In past experience, like in a work environment, when things don't go my way for one reason or another I've moved along as we are afforded the ability to by virtue of our freedoms. Not suggesting you stop debating, just suggesting it would make more sense, with an open and vibrant internet full of debate boards, to forego trying to change the minds of the moderators. They are, afterall, free to ignore your pleas.

Right

I'm sure we're going to be bombarded with a youth movement 20 years from now that is going to try to outlaw porn
