I have a feeling the awk you're talking about is not the awk I'm thinking of.

Ok we are talking about the same thing. What in the holy hell are you doing that requires awk scripting? I can think of a million ways to do what awk does faster. Python off the top of my head.

Just read up on it. Sounds pretty cool. Or "highspeed" I should say.

Well to be fair the 17 series is only a few years old

No idea. I assumed it was for some proprietary system. If you've ever read over an RFP, you shouldn't be surprised.

I have heard “cyber” a billion times over. Did not know that 17 was the series for AOC/MOS. My line of work does not use your kind of talents. We have the old standby. A 70D (the medical side of the fence), the occasional 25A and the standard 25B. I am easy to please.

awk is a text processor for Linux. Literally as non-proprietary as you can get

Don't get me wrong, you can do cool shite with it. But I can do cooler shite faster with a modern scripting language like python or ruby.

you need to pull a blurred eye pic off someone's Instagram so we know you are informed on the subject

As it is, weight was killing the average infantryman and still is. By the time you add up body armor, 35 pounds, rifle, 7 pounds, 7 magazines, 7 pounds, ACH, 3.25 pounds, so - that's 55 pounds and we haven't talked about uniform, boots or ruck, which can often get to another 35 or 40 pounds EASILY.

Don’t forget about your mortarmen, gunners, or assaultmen carrying even more weight.

Eh, Chat is an Indian ballistics nerd. Not putting rounds through camel jockeys isn't a deal breaker for his knowledge.

I thought I'd be a badass and hump a 240B for our two week FTX in OCS.

That was a really, really stupid idea

...but not quite as stupid as my roommate deciding to hump the tripod

This has nothing to do with the thread, but this is all I found when I looked for “blurred eye pic.”

Yeah, that's cool, and if I'm looking for advice on ballistics and hitting paper maybe I'll hit him up.

Miles of difference between that knowledge and putting it to use in combat.
