Teddy Sell Out. He has no backbone. After Trump humiliated him, his wife, his father, and make fun of him as a lying Bible thumper, Ted still came back to suck up to Trump which shows that he is just another arse-licker like Paul Ryan who talks tough, but carries a twig.

Just saying, demographics are changing in Texas. It's been the ultimate crown jewel in the eyes of Democrats for the past decade in terms of flipping. Remember, even up until 1998, Democrats owned statewide races. Just not so safe as some would think.

2016 is a bad data sample for Texas. Trump is a horrible fit for the state. Rubio would have won by huge margins

No way Trump would give him that status.
Could Cruz possibly be further right than Thomas?

My comment had nothing to do with him being " a principled conservative". I was referencing the fact the GOP cann't stand him, can't trust him, but knowing who & what he really is, they put up with him. And if he's anything like his father, I call to question just how sincere he is as a principled conservative. He would never get confirmed for the Supreme Court, he has too many enemies on both sides of the aisle.

Disagree. Republicans would vote him in just to get rid of him.

lol. There is no way a liberal - even a messican liberal wins in Texas for a statewide office. You can dream all you want to, but it isn't happening.

Yep.
People keep forgetting that Ted Cruz absolutely crushed the GOP presidential primaries in Texas so he obviously still has quite a lot of leeway with republicans there even as Trump was barnstorming throughout the country.
The only way a democrat wins in Texas is if enough republicans vote for him and there's no evidence that can happen.

Being an originalist =/= "right" in my opinion.

Texas is changing. It used to be so blue people never thought it would go red. It isn't what it was 10 or 15 years ago. South and West Texas are Blue. Presidential was less than double digits. Cruz's coffers are empty and people don't forget how unlikable he has been. Not great chances by any means, but there is definitely a shot at a pickup.
It is "shifting" but slowly. Beto is from El Paso, for a dem to have a shot statewide in Texas they need to be popular enough in either the metro of Houston or Dallas to run up the score significantly

Senate dems would conform easily

Sorry, but I don't trust anyone who says "Stand with Israel or God won't stand with us". It is an absolutely ridiculous statement, but that shite sells in the Bible Belt.

He's got a legit challenger for the Dems though. Beto O'Rourke. Got the look. The Spanish. The likability.

Yes, I remember the people here predicting Cruz would suffer an embarrassing defeat if Trump was elected. Cruz has done in office what he campaigned on. Texans appreciate that as Abbott pointed out. The Trumpkins who derided Cruz won't admit they were wrong as were the liberals who believed they could win the seat. As far as Cruz supporting Trump after the primary race, yes, another commitment made by Cruz during the primary race to support the nominee. Trump didn't deserve Cruz's support with his personal attacks, but Cruz was the good soldier. The GOP is better with someone like Cruz as one of its leaders.

If Ted is so damn smart, why hasn't he figured it out yet? He's basically allowed this child-like belief to override his intelligence.

As someone who has lived in TX for 25 years, No way it comes close. He is for open borders, virtually an unknown in DFW and HOU area.
Cruz beats him bigly...
