'Hamilton' breaks box office record for most money earned in a single week after Mike Pence controversy

quote:

"Hamilton" should thank Mike Pence for his visit to Broadway, because the show just broke the bank. The hit musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda just set a Broadway record for raking in nearly $3.3 million for eight shows just one week after the Vice President-elect was booed by "Hamilton" audience members on Nov. 18, according to the New York Times.

Haven't heard a peep about it for at least a week, until seeing this thread.

The show sells out nightly. Pence had zero effect on earnings.

I haven't seen anyone claim that a multicultural Broadway show beloved by lefties was going to take some hit because of the Pence thing.

It was, and remains, a classless debacle.

Yea and liberals gave Jill millions of dollars for a fake recount. They have proven they aren't very smart with money when emotions are involved.

Um, they sell out no matter what. I'm calling serious bullshite on their intended effect of that stupid actor's rant. It made zero difference.

The entire election was a classless debacle, this wouldn't even rate in the top 100 classless moments in the last 6 months related to that election.

i know someone who paid $1000 for a ticket. I was like damn bitch, this is why you are poor.

I probably would. Even though I agree with you on the election cycle as a whole.

Pence went to their turf to enjoy their progressive art. In return, he was chastised and shamed.

Not only was it intellectual cowardice to call out someone who wasn't even in the building before an echo chamber of a crowd, it was a wasted opportunity to try and influence Pence as to the messaging they want to disseminate.

Naw, this wouldn't rate.

Errr, he went to the hot musical. I doubt he was doing it as reaching out to progressives.

In return, he was chastised and shamed.

this is what they said. What is chastised and shamed here? Highlight it.

Thank you so much for joining us tonight. You know, we had a guest in the audience this evening. And Vice President-elect Pence, I see you're walking out but I hope you will hear us just a few more moments. There's nothing to boo here ladies and gentlemen. There's nothing to boo here, we're all here sharing a story of love.

We have a message for you, sir. We hope that you will hear us out. And I encourage everybody to pull out your phones and tweet and post because this message needs to be spread far and wide, OK?

Vice President-elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton: An American Musical, we really do. We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us — our planet, our children, our parents — or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us. All of us.

Again, we truly thank you for sharing this show. This wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men [and] women of different colors, creeds, and orientations

he left, he could have stayed and listened. Supposeldy he stayed in the hall and listened.

that has nothing to do with class.

Are we shocked that the people who like musicals also don't like Trump? Really?

A fact that a rational not race obsessed person might see and think, "huh, well, that's unexpected..........maybe my preconceptions of him aren't entirely correct".

But even if not, as you say.

What they ended up doing was validating the views of the people that voted for Trump that they should hope to influence.
