So, Aaron Hernandez was gay

What does this say about our society where one thinks he has to has to kill another human being for fear of being exposed as having a same sex attraction? We are living in sad times indeed.

Doesn't say anything about society. Says a lot about Aaron Hernandez if that's really why he did it.
May indicate a problem in the NFL as well.

Or Hernandez killed Odin Lloyd because he probably had knowledge of other killings/crimes that Hernandez committed.

No, we've had famous people and athletes come out before as gay or transgendered. They face more hate from society if they come out as a Trump supporter.
If you are correct about Hernandez, you may be able to draw a line to a problem in the NFL or his colleagues on the Patriots. Maybe his family and friends. I do not think you can extrapolate it to society as a whole.
The guy killed himself and had a violent history. It's not unlikely that he had the CTE problem pervasive in NFL players that causes serious behavior problems. I think OJ Simpson has it.

Not dismissing the unfriendly attitude towards homosexuality that the NFL may have.....but when you see an NFL player (gay or not) have recurring problems like the kind Hernandez had, you should be more suspicious of possible brain injuries than some kind of society pressure. That goes without mentioning the drug use.
