Should people choose where taxes go?

For example, there is a checklist every year of $ getting allocated across all divisions (on a high level, like defense education etc).

That way we the people support what we want to support. Mind you we will still be mandated to spend the same $, just we get to allocate that $.

No. We are a republic, not a democracy. What you are proposing would have terrible, terrible consequences.

I had a friend on the left post something like this after trump elections and talk of pulling Arts funding.......I don't think she would like the actual outcome of that

No, but there should be true accountability on fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer dollars. Shouldn't be hard for the government to figure that out. It's the same things they prosecute private businesses for every day.

How about just fewer taxes and I give my money directly to the people I want to have it?
