Sheltered young people are blind to the reality of the history

Teenagers and 20 somethings in Western societies these days have basically lived their entire lives under the greatest prosperity the human race has ever known.
These kids have been showered with technology and goodies and been as sheltered as possible at every turn.
They largely have no idea how many people had to die to produce this prosperity. How much pain and suffering and sacrifice prior generations had to put in to create the little bubble they have grown up in.
I myself have enjoyed all this prosperity, I'm guilty of this sin to a degree too.
As the saying goes,
Hard times create strong men
Strong men create good times
Good times create weak men
Weak men create hard times
We're in between #3/#4 right now.

Completely agree. I can't imagine how many Americans in that age bracket were watching some dumbass reality TV show like the bachelorette or the voice instead of checking out on whats going on in London.
It shows a complete detachment from the state of the world and the country's place in this world.

I think there is a little hope for the group that were maturing right during the housing crisis.

They don't appreciate peace and prosperity because they've never seen the opposite.
That's another reason why they invent fake problems to complain about.

I'm guessing you believe your generation went through "hard times"?
Did you miss the part where I said I was guilty of this too?
Unlike most younger people I'm actually award of how cushy I've had it.
Unlike the mobs of entitled brats protesting about Halloween costumes and transgender bathrooms.

The sexually ambiguous tender footed hurt feelings crowd is revolting, and yes, pampered as hell. They're killing us.

only on the poli board is it a bad thing that an entire generation of people have completely missed out on shite like war and grown up in a level of prosperity never known in human history

You think the snowflakes are a good thing?

The problem isn't that there were good times. The problem is that the prosperous generation was not adequately educated about history and what went into making those good times so they could continue them.

We should send all transgenders to Russia or Africa

Which generation was that?
The 1820 to 1840 generation?
We've been in one war since 2001 and a second war since 2003.
The most violent tragedy to occur on our homeland since 1864 occurred 16 years ago.
Sheltered? Not much.

Just hasn't seemed as much like we've had two wars going on simultaneously for 14 years since Obama did a good job of keeping American casualties down, especially in his 2nd term.
That strategy was carried on by Trump,
so far.

Not that I disagree with you, but how is being on a forum any better than drooling in front of a T.V.? Also, it was Manchester....not London. Carry on.

I just saw this on Reddit, and apparently it's a 100+ year old woman defending her home in Armenians during the 1990s.
Compared to life like this, we've lived most of the last few centuries here "sheltered." Even when our soldiers went off to war, seeing atrocities I couldn't imagine, they still didn't have to think that their families, their neighborhoods, everything they know had a good chance of being gone, like it never existed.
So when people have lived through, and continue to live as we speak, in fear of genocide and unspeakable atrocities, then "sheltered" is not a high bar to meet. It's relative.
I see you've found your virtue signaling though.

Let's prove the saying wrong
Posted on 5/22/17 at 11:26 pm to IAmReality
End of the cold war was a game changer. Most people who grew up in that period expected to die an early death via war.

I don't disagree. My generation is self-absorbed and weak.
