Then the polygraph (as we know) is worthless, and they should interrogate them instead. If it is used to detect lies, then it's going to result in too many false positives to identify the few who are guilty. In other words, it's disturbing that they use it anyways, or that anyone would advocate for its use.

The polygraph is and always was worthless for detecting truth or lies.
Complete pseudo science.

And what useful information can one derive from that, especially considering the unique differences from person to person?

Every intelligence agency in the US uses them.
Well that doesn't mean they have value. But when then, if they're using it for questions related to higher base-rate behaviors then they have more potential usefulness.

They also use the threat of a polygraph to promote the honest answering of questions on applications.
Well in 2017, if one is able to do a quick Google search regarding its poor reliability and validity, then that threat shouldn't be very powerful, especially if someone is going to lie anyways.

You're off base here.

Polygraphs are used as a tool for questioning. They aren't viewed as "lie detectors" as you keep assuming. It's a tool to better read a respondent's physical state. It's one layer in the process.Every intelligence agency in the US uses them. The FBI uses them during the hiring process. They also use the threat of a polygraph to promote the honest answering of questions on applications.
Well said. These things can never be comprehended by the poli board resident nerd robots, Buckeye v and Loshie.

If waterboarding is good enough for Mooselimb terrorists it's good enough for own domestic terrorists intent on dismantling the USA.

Don't hold back, use drone strikes and waterboarding on all our enemies, foreign and domestic!

Has no one told him Nixon already tried this? You'd think he'd remember. But maybe he was too busy calling white civil rights lawyers in Alabammy "disgraces to their race" to pay attention to what was happening in DC.
