Sec Mattis does a interview with a high schooler. Worth a read.

Surprisingly the interviewer asked some tough questions and Sec Mattis had some great thoughts on the current situation in the Middle East and his thoughts on what needs to happen for long term stability. He also talks about the current political climate in the country and how it is harmful.
It's a little long but worth it.

You are the exact type of person that Mattis is talking about when he says this:

You misread his statement completely. In the quote, Mattis condemns those whose arguments against their political opponents consist mostly of simple rhetoric painting the other side as evil, horrible people. That's exactly what the Dems have been saying about Trump. AND mass media's total focus on trying to destroy Trump consists of calling him a traitor, a pig, TRUMP IS CRAZY 25th Amendment, and Trump is an evil liar.
The Dems and mass media call Trump bad names. That's their argument. Even their own side now calls for an end to this in favor of some substantive policy arguments against Trump, but, the focus on "Trump is Evil. Full Stop" has no end in sight.
So you have completely missed the fact that Mattis's comments are aimed AT MASS MEDIA AND THE DEMS and not at my approach.
The Left is compelled to distort and politicize history because objective analysis of history causes the thoughtful student to REJECT LEFTISM. This is my point, so I'll explain how Mattis's comment supports me -- in order to politicize history, the Left must indoctrinate the student with the notion that the non-Leftists are evil and that evil must be opposed by any means necessary. Mattis lectures against such simplistic thinking and indoctrination. As such, his comments comport with my own thoughts.

You only have to spend about 5 minutes reading on this board before someone is calling all people on the left evil, enemies of the country, etc.
If you think Mattis is only talking about the left then you should open your mind. He's talking about both extremes, Left and Right.
