We need for Kennedy and Souter to step down, especially Kennedy

I bet Ole Ruth is wishing she had retired 2 years ago

I trust Trump implicitly with judicial nominations, so nothing would please me more than seeing those 2 step down, because that would truly save the court for a generation

If Ruth goes, that would be a huge bonus and would obviously be awesome

But what we really need is to preserve those 2 seats

Could you imagine Trump getting FOUR picks?

Wow, wanna talk about something to fap about?

If Souter and Kennedy love the USA, they will do this

Souter is 77, Kennedy 80. Haven't heard anything about health issues or such. Don't think it will happen in the next couple of years. Ruth needs to retire NOW!

Souter has been retired from the Court for several years (replaced by Sotomayor), and he was not a conservative (even though Bush Sr. appointed him).

Kennedy is a "conservative" but is more in the middle, and goes with the left on many social issues such as gay marriage. He would be the "conservative" that needs to leave the most.

There are four Justices that can truly be considered conservative: Roberts, Alito, Thomas, and Gorsuch. Only one of those could I see retiring anytime soon, and that would be Thomas.

If the Democrats/liberals freaked out over POTUS Donald Trump appointing 1 conservative, can you imagine their reaction to 3 or 4? Picturing the war on the Senate floor, it would be bloody and entertaining.

After the ACA ruling, hell yes. Kennedy even tried shooting it down but Roberts screwed it up.

Kennedy should probably step down soon, too.

Souter retired in 2009 & was replace by sotomayor.

Perhaps you are thinking of Clarence Thomas?

Thomas is 68 years old and been a little ambivalent about retiring. Thomas has been a rock solid justice for us
IDK his health status but he looks somewhat haggard.

Kennedy is 80 years old and the rumor is he will step down this summer. He was appointed by Reagan but has been back and forth on many of his votes.

Ginsburg is hanging on by a string at 84 with heart problems and a two time cancer survivor.

Breyer is 78 and the clock is ticking on him too.

I think Trump gets FIVE picks before he's done.

It's an old court.

He's getting 4. Hopefully 5

This will be Kennedys last year

Thomas will step down before he lets a DIM replace him, after all the hell they put him through

RBG won't last

And Breyer?? He is currently at the average age of retirement for a Supreme. If Breyer makes all 8 years under Trump, he will be top 15 in length of service, all time. Don't see it, because he was already 56 when he started. And the only justice on that list that was older than Breyer when appointed, was Rehnquist.

If Trump is re-elected, I think he gets 5

Kennedy then Thomas.

RBG if we're lucky. Breyer if we're really lucky. Sotomayor if we shoot the moon.

Souter retired in '09 btw.

The thing about getting a bunch of young Justices is finding younger judges with practical federal appellate experience. Most Supreme Court Justices come from the US Circuit Courts of Appeal, and it takes a lot of legal experience just to get to that point.

I think it honestly does not matter. The court is currently balanced--4 justices who follow the law, 4 progs, and Kennedy as the swing. If Ruth Buzzi or Kennedy goes and Trump appoints a Bill Pryor or similar to shift it to a conservative leaning court the Dems will expand the court as soon as they are in control of the legislature and presidency. The only move from republicans to stop the progressive legislation from the bench is to expand the court while they have the opportunity and fill the new spots with judges who value the Constitution above social justice.
