It's a pretty wild situation going on in Arkansas. Sanders has called for a special session to dramatically change the FOIA established in the 60's.

People have been digging into purchases. She's citing it as a security measure but both sides are hammering the bill.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

SHS being very scummy here. She took a trip to Paris, reporter requested records detailing how much that cost Arkansas taxpayers, and SHS says asking that is “putting her family in danger.”

Yep, costs of trips like this should be public knowledge...

While I don't disagree, there's a good deal of hypocrisy involved here, in that the democrat propaganda media is much less curious about costs to Arkansas taxpayers when we had governors like Bill Clinton, Dale Bumpers, David Pryor, and Jim Guy Tucker.

Who in the media was lamenting the cost to taxpayers for trips when Asa Wal-Mart or Bill Clinton was governor?

Several things are already exempt from FOIA to protect the governor's security, like data, records, surveillance footage and emergency plans, but if it's passed, HB1003 would add communications concerning the "duties performed" by the governor's security team to that list.

I can see the argument for wanting that available. But also see the Governor's side of things. If you're being cynical then "why do you want Governor's security teams actions private?" If you are from the pro-security aspect then it's common sense why you don't want security teams actions made public.

quote:

Other additional exemptions under HB1003:

"Records that reflect the planning or provision of security services" for lawmakers, including the governor, the secretary of state, members of the General Assembly and Arkansas Supreme Court justices

With the Governor on this. Why would you want security planning made public? I'm ok with allowing the review of these matters behind closed doors, but not out in the open.

quote:

"Records revealing the deliberative process of state agencies, boards or commissions," like executive branch letters and documents that you would not be able to access unless you were involved in a court proceeding

Don't see the problem with this.

quote:

Materials that reflect "advisory opinions"

Why would you want this public?

quote:

"Deliberations that compromise part of the process by which governmental decisions and policies are formulated"

Again, not sure why the public needs to know this or why it's part of the FOIA.

They are public knowledge. That's not what the democrats want. Read the article.

Deliberations that influence policy decisions? Like- Zuckerberg told us he would Gove us 400 million dollars if we pass Dropbox are legal 24/7 with no security cameras.

Or

CEO of Pfizer helped us decide to install vaccine mandates for all state employees

Security costs to public figures who take controversial positions are problematic. A trip to a Walmart might cost a K for apt Security. This is what happens when LE becomes a political mechanism. The heathen rage.

I did read the article... color me skeptical anytime the government adjusts FOIA, regardless of who is behind it or which party wants what...

You think the cost of security for a trip to Paris should not be included in a FOIA request for the cost of a trip to Paris for the governor?

She will get re-elected in Arkansas by at least 30%.

Easy to not have ethics when your voters are gullible and ignorant.

Coming from a marxist democrat Alabama fan, that’s about as rich as it gets. Imagine the party of Bill and Hillary, Obama, and Biden having the word ethics cross their lips. Must be a requirement to be a marxist democrat, a complete and total lack of self-awareness, and utter blindness to their monumental hypocrisy.

Lets clarify why she's pushing for the same protection afforded to the US President and members of Congress

Its for her families safety.

She's had multiple death threats made against her and her family.

A man was recently convicted in Oklahoma of threats against her life. LINK

Maybe Democrats shouldn't be such psychos and it wouldn't come to her passing FOIA legislation.

Was just about to post this. Ada was the damn definition of RINO. Absolutely worthless during COVID.

The Media outlets operate in Leftsville. They only care about shite like this when we have a TRUE Republican running Arkansas.
