This is an absolutely pathetic excuse. I'm no where near a Democrat apologists however how can you say with a straight face that the reason for a government shutdown is because the "democrats are dragging their feet", WHEN YOU HAVE A MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE AND YOU HAVE THE WHITE HOUSE.

Then get this. In Ryan's next breath he then talks about a week long short term CR to keep the government funded.

My expression:

Guys, it's become apparent. The Speaker of the House job is too big for Ryan. He is little leaguer playing in the big leagues. He is WAY in over his head.

Paul Ryan is an absolute clown.

Truth. He shouldn't be anything more than a 3rd fiddle background politician.

He does not have the cajones or the intelligence.

And yet there will be a parade of Trumptards along soon to agree with Ryan. The Republican Party has become a loose collection of competing factions which has left it dysfunctional

Ryan needs to go, he's no better for this country than Chuck Schumer and his ilk

Ryan's a pretty weak speaker. But no one else wanted/wants the job. The GOP caucus is nearly ungovernable (unwhippaple) at this point. They don't have a unifying theme or program to rally around.

There was a time I respected the guy.

That is all the more reason the party needs a strong leader to bring those factions together. Ryan ain't it.

I don't really care what Speaker Ryan has to say anymore. They are all (but a handful) FOS.

They have all gone on another long break after blowing smoke up our asses AGAIN. They funded the Gov with a Stopgap spending bill; which funds gov't thru 11:59:59 pm et on May 5.

I have no problem with it. Democrats did it the entire time Barry was in office.

Democrats didn't have a majority the entire time Obama was in office.

If they want something to rally around, they have multiple targets.

ACA
Tax cuts
The wall

Pick one and make a big move. The Republican Party needs another morale booster. Gorsuch was a good start, but they need to keep going.

I totally admit it's very difficult to bring the factions withing the GOP together. On one end you have the libertarian leaners (HFC) and the other end you have the crony capitalists (Tuesday Group (or whatever their name is)).

But holy hell, they have got to get their shite together.

Dems have unity government for Obama's first two years, to be precise. And while they didn't do anything to promote bipartisanship or foster better governance, they did get a lot of their program through.

Exactly. The GOP isn't taking advantage at all.

The Democrats only had the House, Senate and WH in Obama's first two years. This is when they got Obamacare and stimulus passed (and we are still passing).

GOP leadership doesn't want to touch ACA or the Wall. They are okay with playing on the edges of tax legislation. They just want to make sure they keep Tom Donahue with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce happy.

This is where our representative lose touch with their constituents. Once they get to Washington, industry lobbyist lobby the f' out of them. Our representatives then realize they they just have to serve as a Representative for 2 or 3 terms then these industry lobbying firms will set them up with 7 figure jobs after they leave.

They don't care about us. They don't care about the people. They only care about themselves.

This was apparent before he took the job, when some people mistakenly believed he was a 'policy wonk'.

But in a landscape where Republicans will tear apart any Speaker internally because their far-right wing doesn't live in the real world, who else wants it?

In order to control the narrative? Yes.

And FWIW, i don't give a shite about a government shutdown. It doesn't "shutdown" anyway. All it is, is a media talking point, and i'm fine with pushing the onus on the Dems.

Reaching? You sure you know what that term means?
