Trying to steal their weapon is a pretty specific reason. Not saying he should have been shot in this instance, but you can tell that right when the guy videoing it got in picture they had been in a tussle and you can see the taser flying back after they were fighting over it. Don't be stupid and reach for a cops gun or taser and you won't be put in a situation where someone has to make that decision.

I would argue that when the guy started running away, and the cop knew he didn't have a weapon, that that is the point when the analysis begins. It's what was the state of the situation at the time the trigger was pulled? If the cop would have shot while the struggle was ongoing then we wouldn't be having this conversation. The SC case on it uses a danger to the general public as an exception to avoid the hypothetical what if we let him get away and he's an imminent threat to the public. He was not here should he have gotten away.

Possible outcomes here.

One of the jurors is extremely racist and doesn't want to see a white cop go to jail for killing a black man.

The prosecutor is buddy buddy local law enforcement unions and intentionally sabotaged his own case to maintain the relationships he has with them.

I find it hard to believe anyone thinks the cop was correct here.

Or he has close relationship with a cop. Probably from a glory hole.

Scott was fleeing away from the cop and was not a threat to him or anyone else as he was running. It doesn't matter what he did before.

There is no justifiable reason to shoot someone in the back if there's no specific threat.

Goldennugget is really a piece of shite.

For all the talk he puts up about fighting the establishment in government, he sure does a hell of a lot of bootlicking to their enforcement arm.

This is borderline unbelievable considering the video tape.

It's really not, unfortunately. We don't like to convict cops of actions they take while on duty. I'm not surprised in the least at this outcome.

None of us were in the courtroom. People probably played the sympathy card with various effectiveness.

Given that Hollywood IS full of culture-destroying Marxists, I think we could have done with a little more "McCarthyism".
