Well then tell me... Where does a genetic abnormality that can be corrected stop???
Please give me a comprehensive list of genetic abnormalities and whether they can be willed away or not.
TIA
Hey, I'm not in the let's will the gay out of the gays camp at all, so don't try to paint me into that shite.
All I'm saying is, it looks like this particular statement of Perry's is pretty much completely in line with the current thoughts with regard to the genetic predisposition of homosexuality, but that it seems there's basically nothing he can say on the subject that won't be twisted into a slam.
I personally think it's a silly thing for an elected official to harp on, either way, but the whole game of trying to play gotcha, on any seemingly innocuous point just gets a bit tiresome.

they do this all the time.
Right. And some people choose to become more figured.

So if a person has a genetic inclination to become an alcoholic you think he will still become one if he choses to never drink?
Did I say anything about alcoholics and drinking? Nope
I am saying he is a moron for comparing someones sexuality to alcoholism.
He's prob for putting all gays into a church group where you can pray and will them to be un-gay... Am I right?

And so Republican primary season begins...

I'm saying that homosexuals don't have a choice in who they are attracted to.
based upon what? somebody told you this and you buy it or is it simply what you want to believe to be true so you can get all high and mighty and indignant?

I read the quote and I didn't see that. He said a person can have a genetic inclination to do a particular act like drink alcohol, but the person still has to act on that inclination.

Im pointing out the fact that he called it a genetic disposition that can be chosen to be ignored... That is a HUGE blanket statement.

Seems to me, you're the one choosing to interpret it as some sort of absolute point. A straightforward reading of it, doesn't say that to me at all.

no shite, the agenda drivers are gonna have you be homophobic when all is said and done, regardless, so why play into the hands of the propagandist?

Except for the fact that alcoholism is considered a disease
Not knocking on you but I think it's a sickness, not a disease. Alcoholism is not transferable from one person to the other like the flu, common cold, etc.
As far as alcoholism being in one's genes, I disagree with that also. My dad was a drinking alcoholic for probably fifteen years. One day he decided enough was enough. He made up his mind that he had taken his last drink. For twenty years until his death he stuck to it.
You can't hope or wish a disease away.
I might add that none of his three sons have ever had a problem with alcohol.

meh. looks like it's material for false outrage but the way I read it is that Rick Perry agrees gay people are born that way.
But rage on I guess.

No "gay gene" ?
Well, there is damned sure a "worship the gay" gene.

Semantics wise you can call it whatever you want... I think its ignorant to compare someones pre programmed sexual orientation to alcoholism.

The comparison is not as far fetched as the liberal media will spin it. Alcoholism is detrimental to the health/well being of an individual and often has negative impact on loved ones. Homosexuality potentially can have a negative impact on society and human survival/perpetuation of the species.

I read the quote and I didn't see that. [comparing homosexulaity to alcoholism]

“I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way,” he said.

So do I. I was just commenting on what I think a disease is or is not. Don't get testy with the old e-man.
