Repubs have no idea how to govern. I fear they are doomed.

The GOP (my party since 1984) doesn't know how to be a majority. Too many of them still want to act like the opposition party. They like to say no, but they can offer nothing that has any chance of actually passing into law.

Call the far right by whatever name or subspecies you want -- Freedom Caucus, constitutional conservatives, movement conservatives, social conservatives -- they exist simply to blow government up whenever and wherever possible. But they don't even represent a majority of their own party.

They have already done terrible damage to Trump and his ability to (a) sell an agenda, (b) dismantle the Obama state, and (c) get reelected. They just made Democrats the heroes in the national media. They are guaranteeing midterm losses for themselves.

frick it, I'm out. Changing my registration to Independent.

Intellectual diversity huh? Nice spin.
The reality is that they have no real unifying ideas. The only concept of that was opposition to Obama. Now, with no war to fight against their boogey man they are collapsing.

Most of them are also in the tank for the globalists. Virtually everyone in DC is bought by special interests, which is an unfortunate reality of our current political system. There was some hope an outsider such as Trump could change things, but it appears the swamp is too deep.

So you think people are going to switch from Republican to Democrat, over this?

The dopers might vote libertarian but in insignificant numbers.

Settle down buttercup. The conservatives saved 2018 for republicans. Only 17% of the public liked this bill. It sucked. It was a half measure. It's time to come up with real repeal and replace and put it to a vote.

Good on you. I became eligible to vote in 1998, and for all the reasons you state, I went with an I instead of an R.

The freedom caucus is just holding trump to his campaign promises. They are governing based on the rhetoric they sold to their voters. It is the establishment who pushed this idiotic sham of a bill that is to blame. They ignored the mandate they were given to their detriment, and Trump stabbed his supporters in the back at the behest of the wing of his party which would rather see him impeached than succeed. It's mind-boggling.

Never thought I'd agree with this sentiment.

The people who identify as independent are where races are won in swing districts. They will switch unless there is some real winning happening over the next few years

Translation: GOP members are smart enough to think as individuals and not so petty that they put aside honest differences (like the Democrats do) to destroy the Democrats at all costs. Damn shame there's intellectual honesty, right boys?

I am disgusted with my party, too. But I have trouble seeing Trump/GOP voters voting for Dems. I can see that many might just stay home and not vote at all. Or vote in party primaries for non-incumbent challengers. Which could be a reason to stay registered GOP. But maybe not a good enough reason. I am in for Trump now, alone. If he came up with a better party option, I'd seriously consider it.

It doesn't help that the party's putative leader has no governing philosophy or ethos other than "what makes me get cheered"

Their attention span will quickly turn to the failure of Obamacare.

If they blame Republicans for this, then they will get exactly what they deserve (again).

This is purposeful. The Gop and Dems belong to the uniparty of the elites. Trump is an outsider. If they wanted to defeat Obamacare they would have defunded it way back when.
