Yes.

Some people can't see the difference between a lean government and a big one though.

Does anyone think we need the level of military abroad we currently have?

I dont think we need the level of military abroad that we currently have and if the majority of UN members would pull their fair share of missions then we could possibly be a leaner defense force. On that same note, people think we need a leaner and faster military which means it takes less money to become.....It will still take the same amount...fewer soldiers but more exspensive equipment to purchase and maintain. The downfall to this leaner and faster military is if we ever got into another war, the leaner, faster more powerful military utilizes weapons of mass destruction (Im not referencing Nukes). This country has way too many soft-hearted people. The majority would not want us destroying whole towns of women and children to win the war and we would require a large ground assault in order to lessen those types of casualties. Well this leaner military will not have the strength to engage in ground warfare with anyone. The point being, until the UN members pull their weight, we will continue to need a large military or until the US grows some and says we arent babysitting the world any longer. And we all know what the outcome would be if we stop policing the world. We are watching that on the news since our foreign diplomacy has gone in the crapper. I dont believe Putin would have pulled this on any President prior to Obama...well back to Jimmy Carter. He would have done this to Carter also.

I think it should be European nations responsibility to keep an eye on Putin. We've carried their burden far too long.

I agree but they wont and neither will the UN because of China and Russia having a stronghold on every decision made by the UN Security Council.

DOD spending in non entitlement spending and can and will be cut in terms of real dollars and proposed spending increases...in other words
this part of the budget can be put on the table every year for cuts.

the problem is that its not cut. It just grows and grows. And what we get for a dollar of defense spending, vs. a dollar for SS is just not equivalent. SS is at least giving something to the people. Right now, we get fricking jack shite from defense spending. We are protecting other people. We are the world's cop, and yes we receive some benefits from this but the american taxpayer is footing the bill for europe's safety. frick that, that is crap.

I would rather grandmas being able to eat than some euro dude doesn't have to worry about Putin.

Right. Because we all know from history that an increase in spending in another area will cause grandmas to starve.

I'll bet you that if we told many of these nations we were pulling our bases and our defense, they'd pick up the tab for their own defense.

The US would rather maintain their power over other nations by having their back than allowing them to do it themselves, so it's a pipe dream anyway.

I quickly found this. It looks like its going in one direction.

I was replying to a post where he talked about entitlement spending. My comment was relevant.
