We can now debunk the myth that refugee resettlement is costly for taxpayers and a drain on society. Turns out that even after limited govt support through the first 90 days, overcoming steep language barriers, and dealing with the mental stress of fleeing dreadful circumstances back home... They end up creating lives just as successful as regular Americans.

Also not to mention passing the world's most selective, time consuming, and thorough vetting process. Can we please stop acting like the risks from refugee resettlement in this country are a problem?

quote:

By the time refugees who entered the U.S. as adults have been here for 20 years, they will have paid, on average, $21,000 more in taxes to all levels of government than they received in benefits over that time span, according to a working paper released Monday by the National Bureau of Economic Research that examined the economic and social outcomes of refugees in the U.S.

quote:

Those who arrive before the age of 14 graduate from high school and enter college at the same rate as their U.S.-born counterparts, researchers found — a finding that Evans characterized as the most surprising to him.

quote:

Refugees who arrive between the ages of 18 and 45, meanwhile, start out in the country with low employment and earnings and rely heavily on welfare programs. But after six years in the U.S., they work at higher rates than their U.S.-born counterparts — though their wages never catch up. After 10 years, their use of welfare and food stamps are comparable to native-born Americans.

When they start settling refugees in affluent areas and stop plopping them into poor areas then I will start believing the elitists who lecture poor people about accepting refugees

The Bezos Post would never deceive us about this... Its not like he runs a huge conglomerate that benefits from cheap labor and a massive government that he can use to choke out competition.

Also...a lot has changed in 20 years. The welfare refugees got back then is nothing like it is now. Plus the demographics of the refugees probably didnt include massive numbers of Arabs and Africans.

Refugees should not be allowed to receive any type of welfare. Period. US citizens paying for illegals to draw welfare is insane.

Welfare isn't the main argument against more refugees.

Also, doesn't this disprove the liberal myth that those born into poverty in the us can't help themselves?

I can't keep up with the amount of WP that are used for the right narrative then slammed if it's an opposing view article. Which I also dont know why this makes you so angry if it's true.
