At the time this movie was filmed the theme was totally pertinent, although somewhat far-fetched.

You do have a talent for the understatement.

quote:

Second, the idea that we don't have anything to fear from Russia, China, other Communist nations is not to be dismissed lightly.

Well, I don't know about "fear", but there are certainly nations, both Communist and non-Communist that we should keep our eye on and be mindful of their intentions.

But back to the movie, I mean seriously . . . Lea Thompson (although kind of hot) and Jennifer Grey totin' guns and killin' commies was a little bit funny. I'm embarrassed to say I actually went to the theater to see it.

Ok, the movie is more than a little far-fetched and it can hardly be categorized as a "thinker" but it's a fun movie that's good for pure entertainment.

My problem is that when I watched it for a second time years later, it was more ridiculous than I remembered it.

You probably think Roadhouse wasn't stiffed at the Oscars the year it came out also.

This country has lost its direction.

Wow. Typical liberal male chauvinist statement. You think in a time of crisis women would be unable to take up arms to defend against invasion?

VOR:
Champions the cause of women being able to serve in the military in forward/combat operations.

Thinks a movie's depiction of women fighting in war is ridiculous.

Crazy Leftists are gone craze.

One of the greatest miscarriages of justice in Oscar history.

Swayze ROBBED of best actor while people who watched 12 Years A Slave still have not awakened from their slumbers/comas.

Remember the fallen!

Best thread I've seen on poli board in awhile. Best movie ever made in my opinion. Seeing this as a child I had visions of russians rolling down my street. Me and pops busting out the shotguns and blowing them away.

I never thought this thread would go this long when I started this thread. Someone at TNT has a sense of humor running this movie with all of the news with Russia lately.

You're right, and I for one don't dismiss the idea that we don't have anything to fear from Russia, China, other Communist nations lightly. I actually embrace the idea.

Red Dawn has some historical significance as being the first movie to ever receive the rating of PG-13.

My 12 and 14 year old daughters think this movie is THE BOMB! I guess I did too.

It's pretty much the 80s version of the Hunger Games
