And Paul didn’t hedge or pad his thoughts at all, he just came right out on Twitter and said that Nugent’s “derogatory description” of Obama is just beneath anyone.

What does this say about Paul's campaign? Is he trying to move away tone wise from the tea party and focus more of the ideas of libertarianism?

Update:
Ted Nugent (Kind Of) Apologizes for ‘Sub-Human Mongrel’ Obama Remark

Wow look Rand Paul is against blatant bigotry - that seriously must have taken a lot of courage (in his party).

You must have been using this before you posted.

Nugent called Obama a subhuman being. And because Paul thinks that it's derogatory, that means to you, that he is moving away from tea party?

Ted Nugent doesn't speak for the Tea Party, and I don't buy into the idea that the Tea Party has a "tone" problem.

I haven't read Nugent's comments yet, but I'm just curious. Did anybody ever apologize to Bush?

Bush was called a killer, a murderer, a bigot, an idiot. There were posters of him looking like Hitler, a monkey, etc.

And even more importantly, compare the way Bush was treated by the press with the way they've treated Obama.

Sorry, but Obama has been cut a ton of slack ever since they gave him a Nobel Peace Prize. Way before that, really. I'm not shedding any tears for a President who has been treated with kid gloves by almost everybody.

PS - Where was CNN when Bush was being called all sort of vile names, made to look like a monkey, etc? I don't recall CNN asking a single Democrat politician to renounce any of that.

But, I guess every Republican in the country will be asked about this.

As for my take, there's no reason to call Obama anything he isn't. Just stick to what he is; a horrible President, a race-baiter, a Socialist, a radical Muslim apologist (see the Muslim Brotherhood), a national debt accumulating magnet, etc, etc.

There are so many ways to HONESTLY express how horrible Obama is; there's no need to do what Nugent did.

None of this has anything to do with the Tea Party movement, btw.

I'm sure Nugent is working on that apology as I type!

"Derogatory description"...MY arse. Obama goes before the American Electorate and BLATANTLY LIES in regard to the PIVOTAL ISSUE OF THE ELECTION...and Nugent gets called out for a reactionary response. While God only knows how many good folk may die when their health coverage leaves them in hangin out to dry in a failed delivery system.

I can understand that the national political discourse should ideally be a few notches above this Board...but just the thought of Nugent (or any Obama critic) apologizing for 'words', while Obama remains unaccountable for disastrous ACTION...strikes me as petty and silly.

Paul can project the image of being above the fray, for political comity's sake...but we all know what's coming down. To hell with the pretense of civility...the gloves are off.

No wonder that this nation is on the edge.

This meshes well with the outreach that Paul is doing in the Black community. His Dad was also very careful about how he spoke about Obama.

I think Paul is also trying to insulate himself from inflammatory comments that may comment from bomb throwers on his side of the aisle (eg. Todd Akin). He could have just said nothing.

I have a dream that one day this nation will allow conservative persons and politicians to use the same insults towards a Democratic President that liberals get to use towards a Republican President.

Republicans, on average, are better people than the democrats. We should hold them to a higher standard.

Letting stuff like this go is akin to saying, "Well at least my daughter isn't as slutty as a porn star"

I think this is smart on Paul's part. Nugent will still support him and Paul won't give liberals the opportunity to label him a racist just because he didn't disparage Nugent's remarks.

Win-win here.
