It's been reported that it took a little over an hour from the time shooting began for the police/SWAT team to breach the room. It's also been reported that he was firing the weapon for ~11 minutes.

What was he doing for the other hour?

No idea, but apparently they had cops in both stairwells on his floor within 20 minutes.

Not to mention he shot THROUGH the door at the security guard who was shot in the leg.

The way I understand it a security guard interrupted his firing. Paddock shot him through the door then proceeded to kill himself. Took a while for SWAT to get to the 32nd floor with them inspecting each floor as they went up.

So he shot himself shortly after the unarmed guard approached the door and shot him? Didn't wait for the breaching unit?

He had a lot of ammo left - just wondering why he aborted early. Maybe he got spooked by the guard approaching and figured he was out of time.

Heard he shot over 200 rounds from his room into hallway during that time frame.

This.

My plan for mass murder then suicide is interrupted, I’m jerking off to porn until I blow my head off.

Might explain all the strange ways his body is laying in photos. Those cops pulled him off the bed and took his dick out of his hand before photos.

Security guard gave his life to save countless others. He should receive a hero's funeral.

Yep, shot himself apparently right after the security showed up and got shot.

The TV talking heads last night and the police chief timeline showed the last shots fired as being at the security guard.

(from here on is no shooting heard)

The police showed up a few minutes later. (7 mins or so)

The PD then cleared the floor.

Only after securing civilians within the area did the PD breach the room.

Based on the revised timeline from police that Paddock shot the security guard 6 minutes before he opened fire on the crowd - none of this makes sense - and my original question still stands.

Why did he have all that ammo left and killed himself well before the police arrived to stop him.

Had the crowd dispersed to the point that he ran out of targets with an inaccurate near automatic weapon and just decided to pack it in?

I don't think we are ever going to have an explanation that makes sense for this. What was the line in The Dark Knight - some people just want to watch the world burn.

He could've just picked up any of the guns without bump stocks.

Or just locked his bump stock.
