In an age where identity is harder than ever to categorize, identity politics is growing.

How are these two things to be reconciled?

It's easy to say that people are what they identify as, but the other people in that group have to accept them.

In the hypothetical scenario of a "Black Student Union" or a place where whites are supposedly not allowed.

Who determines the criteria? I'm not even arguing whether these things should exist or not, I'm wondering about the mechanics of it.

This whole "People of Color" thing has befuddled me as I can't figure out who fits into that description.

I know many people of "colored" ethnicities that are as white or whiter than me and consider themselves white. They are Indian, Asian, Hispanic, Hawaiian. I also have known several mixed blacks that considered themselves white.

Would these people be welcome? Who decides?

Categorizing people by racial identity is official U.S policy and always has been. Not saying its good. But this isnt some construct of modern leftists.

We are simply a polarized nation and I don't see it getting better because the two sides are worlds apart.

That's a stupid answer. I'm talking about social acceptance mostly, but even the legal part is ridiculous in modern times.

I guess if the feds are for it, it must be ok.

People must not really want a color blind society.

"thats a stupid answer" is a great way to get earnest debate on the subject. I expect no more sadly...

If you've ever been to prison or seen what it's like (maybe even watched one of those shows), you understand pretty much the truth about life (a.k.a. the myth of multiculturalism and the tribalism of the world). The real world is pretty much a loosely veiled "prison politics" system where people only pretend it's about character, merit, or nationality.

You are right yes. Its bullshite to divide ourselves this way. Especially when most of us probably dont ever think about this shite in our day to day interactions with friends and loved ones. For reference my wife is white and we have a child. Her family is my family and vice versa.

Democrats are the only ones who do it comprehensively and without shame.

You are too smart to continuously attribute all the world's problems to the opposing party. I respect you (tho we had quite a rocky start) but i think you are dead wrong.

Basically saying "it's the law" isn't an actual debate anyway, so no loss.

I think the media claims and portrays we are much more polarized than we really are. I work with mostly atheists and never feel weird about mentioning my religion. I live in a black neighborhood and am friends with my neighbors. I teach black kids who I love like they are my own and they love me. Everyone seems to get along just fine in my world.
