Who determines the order of the Senate vote. Can they make Manchin vote before Flake and Collins? He doesnt want to be the vote that gets it to 50 so how will he know if he has to vote first? Is it voluntary so they can all wait it out?

They do it alphabetically.

This, if like past votes, it will be a roll call vote.

but they can pass - right?

try to vote last?

Maybe they should not reveal their vote until all the votes are in - when your name is called you get one chance only to vote - it would be registered as Aye, Nay, Present, or Absent.

Then, when all the votes are in - release the results - how each voted

They do ask if anyone wants to switch at the end.

In other news, Manchin changes his last name to Zzzmanchin.

That scenario would make history. If say Collins votes against and then Manchin also does for political reasons then Collins switches vote that could be a move that costs Manchin his seat. Would be epic if it happened that way.

Just found this on the Georgetown Law Library site:

quote:

When the debate ends, the Senate votes on the nomination. A simple majority of the Senators present and voting is required for the judicial nominee to be confirmed.

Settles the question of a proxy vote.
