PSA: Free Speech is not protected on the job

Why do people not understand that free speech is not protected when you are in the employ of a private employer. That wasn't the point of that amendment and shouldn't be.
It is not your right to make political statements on the job. If you do, your company is well within their legal rights to fire you for it.
In the end, I could care less the opinions of football players, many of whom might not even be able to read, but stop trying to frame this bullshite kneeling and protesting as a free speech issue. It isn't one in any form of the matter.

But their bosses don't give a frick.

Except most of their employers have come out in support of their protests.

The NFL has become a circus. A straight up clown show. There was a dude kneeling and still had his hand on his heart. If you're gonna kneel and disrespect the national anthem then get your hand off your heart frick arse pussies

Find me one NFL player who can't read. You won't, let alone "many".

Lol at you having envious that others have a job with more freedom than you
You don't get to dictate the terms of another job you have no control over, stick with your shitty 9-5.

Yet here you are posting about it.

I don't. I think this whole thing is stupid. Their faux outrage shows they don't give a shite. If I'm most other people did anything on the job like they are doing they'd be fired or reprimanded at the least. I just think most people are tired of millionaire shelters thinking people want to hear anything they have to say about anything outside the sport from them during a game.

I am not envious in any way. The point of this thread is that most people on here and supporting these players use the excuse of free speech and the constitution. They clearly have no idea what that protection is. That was the point of his thread.

I have plenty of freedom. If I don't like my job or employer, there are plenty of other jobs out there. I stay as long as it's mutually beneficial.

This is not a First Amendment or Constitution issue.

Maybe the notion of Freedom of Speech might be slightly broader than the legal protections given by the Constitution.

It's a good thing employers don't force employees to stand for the playing of the national anthem before starting work.

Isn't this the beginning of a speech in that Team America movie?

The president did a great job at reopening this can of worms with his statements. All teams need to do what the steelers are doing and keep their players in the locker rooms

Almost as if getting people talking about this is a wonderful distraction from his and the congressional Republicans continuing inability to deliver on their campaign promise.

People only like speech they agree with. But that misses the point. Opinions that are popular will almost always be protected.
Anyway, this is a bilateral political problem. People on the left and right are just not interested in listening to opinions from a different pov.
Entertainers probably should think carefully about who they are appealing to and who they are alienating. Educators have a moral obligation to be open to rational and fair discourse.
My biggest complaint about political discourse today revolves around how few points of view are honestly expressed by universities and media organizations. Both of those have a moral obligation to be more even handed and bridge the gap to allow for honest discussion between different points of view.

The context of his premise arises from what's going on in the NFL. All jobs aren't created equally, so to compare a professional football player to some regular Joe Schmoe saying/doing whatever they want on their company's dime is asinine. At the end of the day, this "amendment" discussion is irrelevant in that regard.
It isn't irrelevant that people are getting mad that there are people expressing the first amendment, regardless of job.

It's faux outrage to you, but is not to them. Who are you tell other people what they can "talk" about in public?
