This isn't the 70s/80s anymore. shite costs more and the dollar doesn't go as far.

Neither does a high school diploma or bachelor's degree. Advanced degrees are becoming almost a requirement for any kind of good paying job.

Outside of engineering, the best paying and most needed labor positions are for a variety of IT-related work or skilled trades...the former costing nothing to learn outside of paying for certifications, and the latter being only a few thousand dollars at a local tech school.

Why idiots keep trying to get Master's in any humanity if they aren't planning on being in academia is beyond me.

Because they don't give a shite in reality. It's just virtue signaling at it's finest.

Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.

No. The 20 million includes 1) all the people who got kicked off their individual plan and then purchased insurance from an exchange plan. 2) People who were forced to buy insurance by the mandate who could've afforded insurance before and chose not to buy it. 3). People who signed up for Medicaid as a result of the ACA.

So... it would be like passing a law requiring every household to have only Comcast cable, and then bragging about your milliions of new customers who are only customers because they used to have Time Warner, but were forced to drop them and change only because of the law and pickup up customers who were "cord cutters" and now have to have comcast cable. Right? But hey... 20 million successes!!!

Actually it's just sign ups. Many won't ever pay their first premium. And more wont ever finish the year.

Which a poorly surveyed.

There is one thing healthcare.gov has been good at is telling people that were willing and able to buy insurance that *surprise* you're eligible for Medicaid!! But I'm not sure how you count those as "success". By definition those patients arent paying their bills. And PTs with Medicaid have much higher use rates than those without it.

They aren't making healthcare cheaper--they are shifting there expenses onto other payers and the tax payers--just as they would without Medicaid.

The lose money on every patient but make it up in quantity business model hasn't worked for Obamacare. And it never will.

It odd hilarious that liberals created the individual mandate in the ACA to stop "free riders" yet count "free riders" as a success.

best paying and most needed labor positions

There are very few good paying labor positions in the U.S. Virtually the only jobs paying good money are professional jobs, which require at least one, and usually more than one, college degree.

I meant that as a synonym for jobs.

Well, there is no way that labor jobs are the "best paying" jobs. Engineers, doctors, lawyers (well, maybe not lawyers so much any more) and other highly specialized professions are much better paying.

Ridiculous. Those 20 million didn't drop their previous health care coverage to get Obamacare. They didn't have any coverage. Obamacare made it possible for them to get it.

So... prior to Obamacare, there were 20 million people who were going without healthcare insurance simply because they couldn't afford it or they couldn't get covered for whatever reason. Is that it?

So you are a free-loader. Insurance has to be paid by someone - you are just happy it was everybody else. There is no free lunch.

With that attitude, you are no better than a welfare queen scamming the system for any 'freebie' that you can cadge.

26 year old men are adults - they should act like it. Unless handicapped you need to start paying your own way.

So you would have gotten your own health insurance, even though being on your parent's plan made no increase or decrease to their premium? That is literally a waste of money.

Single payer system. It's what the pubs fought against and why we have what we have now. They sabotaged it from the beginning.

Yes. More than 20 million, actually. 20 million is just the number of previously uninsured who now have coverage. There are still some who don't have coverage even under ACA.
