Thanks folks for your replies...and yes...this is the greatest country ever known; whether or not it lasts doesn't take away from that.

Anything worth having, is worth fighting for, to keep. I do feel we are on shaky ground.

My answer is YES.

As for being unduly warlike...I and many of our countryman agree and embrace it sir! We as a nation were born fighting - it has kept the wolves away from our shores because of our martial nature.

They don't care what the American people want when it comes to war. Too much power and money involved

Absolutely.

God save our democratic republic from the quasi-authoritarian who holds our highest office.

He's already saved it. Happened in November when he prevented the Manchurian Candidate HRC from reaching the White House.

I would say the Greek city states because of what they achieved intellectually and culturally in such a short time. Sure, they learned some from Egypt and Sumer, but they took it to the next level and created western civilization.

Next would be Britain because they controlled almost the entire world. Not only that but they discovered and then created America. (I put Britain ahead of Rome because Rome was essentially just an extension of Greece).

In the past 300 or so years, I would say America.

I would say having the moral high ground is imperative to be a great country... it's more noble not to be a bully, and America due to its economic size, struggles with that
