What I love about the OP is that it seems to be premised in the false idea that heterosexuals aren't open about their heterosexuality.

It's hard not to be open about something that creates life.

I don't think Tom Brady had a press conference to announce he liked women. If Michael Sam walked around holding a guys hand..that's his business. Sure he'll be judge by some, but he would also be praised by others. Live your life, I'll live mine. Don't get offended by me, and I won't be offended by you.

Sure, but how often do they get on tv or the news and claim that they are heterosexual to millions of people?

Heterosexuals display their sexuality all the frickin' time, are you kidding? Its not NEWS to the people making the NEWS because it isn't NEW.

If no one had expressed their bigotry in public about the whole man on man kiss hardly anyone would have even seen or cared about it. He's made famous by the bigots.

THe article doesn't cite a source.

Then you did not read it or take time to look at it. It's there.

Other current and former NFL players, like Jake Plummer, said they wished Tebow would “shut up” with the Jesus talk. Plummer was never chastised for making those statements, and no player was ever fined for complaining about Tebow’s overt religiosity. Most people just nodded their head in agreement.

The link is the name Jake Plummer. and it takes you to nbcsports... LINK

Its kind obvious which way he swings, isn't it?

Are you suggesting that if Sam hadn't had a press conference the reaction to him kissing his boyfriend would have been any less bigoted? LOL!

As for your claims that heterosexual couples kissing on television is gross, you can protest the events if you want.

This.... and people won't have an issue with him doing that. However, the shoe does not fit the other foot.

I don't think people, overall, would care which way you swang as long as you kept it to yourself. If they saw him kiss another man I would suspect that most people would be like "Oh..ok, that's different." While you would have some people pissed, it would be a minority. Him making a big announcement about it is different.

No one would have known about because there wouldn't have been camera crews at a 7th round pick's house you fricking dolt.

That's the point. Nobody was holding anything against Sam. NOBODY! Not the team, not the coach, not the SEC.

But you have to understand the struggle. The gay struggle is greater than black slavery. When the first gay man defies all those anti-gay laws from keeping gays out of the NFL it must be celebrated with a fabulous cake and a gay grinding secession on national live TV for all our kids to see and learn the gay plight less they spend 180 days in gay reeducation camp.

I made no such claim that they didn't.

Homosexuality isn't new either. It has been around throughout history.

A claim that can't be proven. Just as my claim that even if no one expressed negative opinions about it, news agencies and ESPN still would've shown it many times, and many people would still have seen it.

You are entitled to your opinion though.

An unprovable position. I would say he is made famous by his own actions. His coming out resulted in ad contracts and news stories that no one that late in the draft has ever sniffed before.

You can't blame his celebrity on "bigots" if it was his own actions which created his celebrity status to begin with.

Would he have been as famous if he didn't come out on such a national stage and simply would've been a 7th round pick? Probably not, but who can say?

Sexual orientation aside, I wonder how long he will actually last in the NFL.

What's being suggested is that stop making it into a big publicity party.

Just curious.. How many other drafted players kissed their moms/girlfriends? How many of them were made the center piece by the news outlets?

See the point at all or are you so full of anger that the mere mentioning of anything other than "praises" to a gay man are heard by your ears?

It's hard to say now. I don't think teams are going to want to be known as the team who cut the first openly gay NFL player. Based on his performance in the SEC I would give him 3-5 going from team to team.
