Pardon My Ignorance On Watergate, But Did Nixon Directly Order The Eavesdropping

And subsequent recordings?

Nothing was ever proven.

Still murky after all these years. Nixon's known error in judgement came during the coverup which he was definitely part of.

He knew about it and did nothing about it. He protected the ones that committed the eavesdropping.

I understood that part.
Always wondered if he ordered the code red. LOL

The Pres just has to say "Damn, I wish we could find out what's going on over at the Watergate/Trump Tower". Plausible deniability.

A term that I wish would just go away.
Alas, it never will.

no - he did not directly order break ins
the big story has always been that he was loyal to his people & that had he come clean & offered up a scapegoat & apologized to the American people - he would have skated
that is what I always heard
I was 5 & 6 years old when this was going on

It's never been proven. We can speculate but that's all it would be. Even the principle players in the event disagree on the subject of Nixon's awareness.

It was a break and enter, disguised as a burglary, to steal DNC information. There is absolutely no evidence linking Tricky Dicky to the botched break in.

And subsequent recordings?
Nixon became involved with the attempted cover up of the break in. The recordings were made by a system in the Oval Office that probably recorded him and aides discussing the cover up. The pertinent part was erased.

Just some overzealous low level operatives in the Cincinnati office.

The level of ignorance here is mind boggling.
The guy asked
to wit: Nixon had secretly taped every conversation that took place in the Oval Office. This came to light during the course of a Grand Jury investigation into the 'famed' Watergate-Break-In.
So if you're asking if there was an authorized wire tapping? No, it was rather why did he do it?

Well, it's too late to impeach Obama. Maybe we could just take away his annual retirement and SS protection?

Never proven he ordered it, but he knew and did not stop it.

No. Read G. Gordon Liddy. It's fascinating stuff that the news never reported.

No prove Nixon ordered the break in of the Watergate, he was in on the cover up.
Hillary was guilty as well for her actions during the hearings.

He did not order the break in and the tapes were his own office tapes. He tapped everything in the oval office just like LBJ.
The big mystery was why he didn't destroy the tapes.
It was not an eavesdropping thing. It was petty thief ordered by Mitchell, covered up by Nixon.
