Panhandlers are some of the worst.

When I lived in BR for school, they were all over College on the I-10 off ramp and going toward Lee Ave. Now back home up north and they are still a plight.
With years of Dems running NY, obviously they haven't done enough to get these bums off the street. Really tired of 8 out of 10 times when I get on a subway car that a panhandler comes on, announces who they are and gives a BS sob story, then walks about asking for money.
If you give to these people, you're only enabling and encouraging them to not seek self help.

The ones that piss me off are the ones who use their children as props.
There are grown, male gypsies here in california who will stand outside of the grocery store asking for money., with their kids in the stroller to add some persuasion technique.
Do these men have no shame? They are not old veterans, who I will give money to.

I guess I am missing how they are not seeking self help by panhandling or what the problem is. Isn't that capitalism in its purest form? No taxes, no bosses, no regulations. The service they provide is guilt alleviation.

Homeless are eligible for ebt and many receive it. Paperwork is sent to the welfare office and they fill out in person.

its awesome when you have the same one come up to you weeks apart with the same story about needing gas to get to the hospital.
i used to enjoy playing 20 questions with them but sounding sincere, only to tell em to piss off after i made them contradict themselves a few times. sad part is they likely used me as a learning experience in a bad way and improved their game.
outside the mall in Louisville a few years ago i saw a big group, and witnessed half of them walking up with bags of chic fila and getting back into their hobo costume. now i just ignore them all. they ruined it for anyone actually in need.

Bums and crackheads love train stations. When I took public transport in Sydney, they would always come up to you asking for money for a ticket to Liverpool or some other shithole suburb with some bullshite story like they have to get to a sick sister or something. I learned pretty quick though that they tend to leave you alone if you bury your nose in a newspaper or book. If they did make eye contact and you refused to give them anything, you usually got a toothless meth mouth "frick you, mate!"

BTR had eight years of a hard-core Republican and the panhandlers were still there, if not increasing . It's not a partisan issue
