I just finished watching the interview with the father of Otto and as nice as he could be, he cast a strong indictment on the previous administration and their lack of action in helping free his son.

I can say, without reservation, that the last 8 years, the inaction, along with the actions of the Obama administration has been a disgrace to our country.

The kid did 2 stupid things; 1st he WENT to NK and then stole the poster and he HAD to know he was under surveillance.

With this said he didn't deserve being treated like shite

We shouldn't have to go to war over citizens voluntarily visiting countries where all of the risks are known up front. Sorry, not worth it.

I'm sorry that you and so many others have uncritically chosen to believe he stole anything . But at least you could bring yourself to condemn the fact that they essentially turned him into a vegetable. I think you got the first part wrong though. Otto was a crime in search of an American, imho.

I generally agree with this.

I agree and apparently this kid went to NK along with a organization that advertises safe tours to the Country. The father made it seem this this organization misrepresented itself for what it really is.

As Trump showed, you don't have to go to war to get action. I'm sure his stern stance and actions since his inauguration went a long way to getting this kid home.

The father even mentioned getting a call from Trump last night around 10pm. All he got from the previous administration was advice telling them to lay low and not stir the waters. It seems like that's exactly what Obama did for the last 8 years.

It's refreshing to see we now have a president that actually cares about the American people and our standing in the world.

Anyone that doesn't know that you're taking your life into your own hands by GOING to NK isn't very smart. Now I'm not trying to demean the kid but facts are facts brah.

If it passed through his mind that there were cameras everywhere, he discounted it. Young people are not at all risk averse.

Wow! I can see now why he got convicted! (Sarcasm)

I can't even tell who that is in that pic. Total BS.

My dad worked for Shell In Syria, about 35 years ago and he was the boss on a rig that employed a lot of Syrians. He ran that rig with an iron fist. He said that a lot of the guys were lazy and careless. It was a very dangerous work environment. You can imagine how he made a lot of enemies.

Well, to make a long story short, they trumped up some charges by saying he tore up a poster of their supreme leader and his choice was to leave the country or face a trial. Of course, he chose to come home but shell was willing to fight the charges for him because this had happen before, to other shell hands.

Its likely that NK trumped up these charges and even if it's true and that's him in that video, not being from NK should of garnered some consideration, especially since the guy wasn't likely to lead a NK civil war rebellion.

Him committing the crime is on video? Are you sure about that? Have you seen the video ? It's absurd.

He chose to go to NK. Why? He looked odd in all of the photos of him being charged and tried. Meaning not psychologically well. An American prison would have broken him much less NK. I've heard it said on this website about the gang raped female journalist. "There is a way the world is, and a way you think it should be. When you confuse the two and put yourself in these situations, you find out how the world IS!"

All judgement and smarminess aside, how is the guy? I just read coma.

Does he appear injured? Head injury? Beating? Any indication as to why he is in a coma?

This is why you dont go to countries that hate the US, regularly trump up charges against foreigners and disappear 1000's of their own people. When you go to another country you are at the mercy of their laws and systems, no matter how terrible they are.
