Can the President technically do that?

I'm not a member of the House and I'm not a Democrat.
I have attended two inaugurations and watched every other one since I was a small child though. I'll be sitting this one out, as will my wife who is a veteran.

It seems childish on their part, but isn't refraining from an event--allowing it to occur--pretty peaceful?
Not when their absence is geared toward inciting the unhinged left assembled in D.C. to cause trouble.

Yeah, A POTUS can't tell them no SOTU. They will probably boycott it or wear all black.

No.

Yeah, I was about to say that I didn't think he could do that.
It's scary how many people appear to want Trump to be a dictator in everything but name.

It was a mother fricking joke.
God damn, I even said it would get him 100% attendance.
The point is these assholes are merely contrary and if they thought they were not allowed to do something they would whine about not being able to do it.
God damn some of you halfwits are fricking stupid.

Have you been reading this board? Tons of posters here believe in absurdly stupid things. I apologize if I mistook you for the average poster of this board.

I didn't watch Obama's on TV but maybe a little bit. I will be brutally homest. When I heard his sham-wow speech starting I turned it off. I instinctively just knew he was not going to be calming the oceans tides or bringing hope to both blue and red States.
It is far different for us to not watch. It is quite another for Reps to boycott it and have their leader not comment on it. It is tacky as all get out.

This is a huge unforced error by the Dems and a gift to the Republicans. This gives Trump/Republicans a license to ignore decorum and tradition whenever they choose. It also makes it plausible for them to pass legislation unilaterally and without apology. Mandate, bitches.

Technically Congress invites the President to the State of the Union (joint session of Congress)

So much for liberal open-mindedness and tolerance.
The most close-minded and intolerant people I have ever met in my life have been self professed open-minded and tolerant liberals.

He has failed at everything he has ever done in office. Why should this be different?

So all the senators are acting like grown-ups?

Senators have to worry more about the general population of their state and not just a non-diverse district where they can do anything they damn well please. No way in hell could the senators from Texas miss it.
