Before someone gets all rustled about it, I like plenty of conservative political cartoons. Ben Garrison spells out every element of his cartoons as though his readers won't understand the joke otherwise.

Cryptic? I don't think so. I like looking at a cartoon (political or otherwise), and going, "what's the message...oh, haha, that's funny. That's really good, damn how do they come up with that." etc. Subtle cleverness is what I look for, and what I think is typically the goal with most cartoonists.
My primary beef with Garrison is that a) he spells out every element, sometimes outright labeling them and b) his jokes are basically the bottom of barrel shite you see on boards like this. It's all really obvious, bland stuff, it's basically a drawn out version of a thread on this board.
That he's obsequious to the Trump crowd wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I enjoy a solid anti-left cartoonist so that wouldn't bother me most of the time.

That's me - with cartoons and humor of any kind.
If someone just makes the equivalent of a fart joke about someone from either side, I don't think it is funny at all. I just shake my head at the blandness.
I can enjoy a well thought out cartoon or joke about my side as much as I can about the other side.
Don't have to agree with the message to see the humor in the effort.

It's the equivalent of SNL for me on the other side. The goal is to spread a political message, and being clever/funny is just an afterthought.
