Bush Pardons 6 in Iran Affair, Aborting a Weinberger Trial; Prosecutor Assails 'Cover-Up'
Lawrence E. Walsh's Statement on the Pardons
Six years after the arms-for-hostages scandal began to cast a shadow that would darken two Administrations, President Bush today granted full pardons to six former officials in Ronald Reagan's Administration, including former Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger.
Mr. Weinberger was scheduled to stand trial on Jan. 5 on charges that he lied to Congress about his knowledge of the arms sales to Iran and efforts by other countries to help underwrite the Nicaraguan rebels, a case that was expected to focus on Mr. Weinberger's private notes that contain references to Mr. Bush's endorsement of the secret shipments to Iran.
In one remaining facet of the inquiry, the independent prosecutor, Lawrence E. Walsh, plans to review a 1986 campaign diary kept by Mr. Bush. Mr. Walsh has characterized the President's failure to turn over the diary until now as misconduct.
Decapitated Walsh Efforts
But in a single stroke, Mr. Bush swept away one conviction, three guilty pleas and two pending cases, virtually decapitating what was left of Mr. Walsh's effort, which began in 1986. Mr. Bush's decision was announced by the White House in a printed statement after the President left for Camp David, where he will spend the Christmas holiday.
Mr. Walsh bitterly condemned the President's action, charging that "the Iran-contra cover-up, which has continued for more than six years, has now been completed."
Mr. Walsh directed his heaviest fire at Mr. Bush over the pardon of Mr. Weinberger, whose trial would have given the prosecutor a last chance to explore the role in the affair of senior Reagan officials, including Mr. Bush's actions as Vice President."

Reagan was a lame arse. He always lied and hid his actions. He wasn't tough, he was a weasel.

I don't think Carter was "evil" in office. Inept and in over his head, sure. But evil? That's a pretty liberal use of the word there.
Gotta agree with you. Unfortunately he was also to incompetent to be good.
To bad he didn't pick up a hammer sooner and just avoided the whole political thing.
Then again.......? Does anyone know the quality of his carpentry work?

I wish we had given nukes to the Contras. They were fighting communists supported by you Dems. I talked to Daniel Ortega last week. He said to tell you 'Thanks for trying.'

Iran-Contra, Reagan's Win-Win-Win gift to America.
1- Allowed Iran to fight Iraq for three more years. I wish they were still killing each other!
2- Kept the DNC/USSR/MSM backed communists Sandinistas from putting Nicaragua into communist camp during Cold War. Man I missed how within days of a DNC or MSM bigwig would proclaiming the Sandinistas non commies and Ortega would fly to Moscow or Havana!
3- We got to see Fawn Hall! What a great piece of American engineering!
I really miss the big hair era!

You could have made your post better If you would have added Bill Clinton to it.
He was involved in the entire CIA operation of drugs for arms for hostages.
They were run through his state while he was Attorney General and then governor of Arkansas.
These are the primary reasons why he was crucified by repubs during his Presidency because they already had the dirt on him from 1977 trough 86.

When Reagan was shot, and was in surgery I recall thinking that he deserved a chance to show what he could do. But pretty much everything he did was shite. He lied about it - he was a good liar - but he was fully briefed - instigated - all the Iran Contra actions. He ordered that weapons be transferred to Iran. They were not his weapons to give away.
His maladroit foreign policy in the Middle East alienated all sides in Lebanon and placed the Marines in Beirut in extreme danger. He tripled the national debt, transferred the tax burden to the middle class and off the shoulders of his fat cat friends.
As for Lincoln, anyone who knows anything about US history knows that the Republican Party of Lincoln's day was progressive - anti-slavery. The Dems were the party of the Slave Power. After the Civil War, the two parties flip-flopped their positions and the Republican Party became the home of the Robber Barons and the Democrats championed the Progressives.

Don't tell that to my dad. He still goes into a profanity laced tirade every time Carter's name is mentioned. He's been cussing that damn Georgia peanut farmer for 40 years now.
Me and your dad have it right.
Although I don't think Carter was evil - in the moral sense of the term. But he was surely a totally inept and stupid POTUS. He planted the seed that is the Islam problem we have today.
If only the Shah had been allowed to live out his reign. :sigh:

I agree with this, but most people are retarded. If you were to poll every American on who the best President we've ever had was, I think Lincoln would win by double percentage points over the person in 2nd place.

He wasn't evil in office. He was a lot of things (sucked, ineffective, capitulated, indecisive, afraid of a fricking rabbit I could go on and on) but evil was not one of them.
