Very happy that I can honestly say it's been well over 10 years since I even remotely tuned in to a NBA game. Never wasted my time watching a bunch of overpaid TPOS. I can count on one finger the time I've watched a NFL g

Well it is quite obvious that you don't watch the NBA. Tpos? All of those cats want to be pretty boys nowadays. They are too worried about fashion than being thugs.

I don't go to movies anymore either. I'm tired of giving guys like Robert Downey Jr my money if him and his buddies are going to make commercials for obama and clinton. IDGAF who you vote for.

Its odd you say pop doesn't represent your family values. His reasons for not supporting trump were..

quote:

The disgusting tenor and tone and all the comments [during Trump’s campaign] that have been xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, and I live in a country where half the people ignored all that to elect someone

So your family values are oposite of that?

To not watch sports because someone had a different political view than you is kind of petty. I watch sports for entertainment.

Seriously. The NBA is pretty much a hipster league these days

Funny how so many are vehemently opposed to the NFL when in reality you all are sec and college football fans and probably never cared about football on Sunday.

Nah.

Cowboys and Texans here.

I just don't need every entertainer I like to share my geopolitical views to enjoy their talent.

Yes turn it off and leave the country. No one wants you ignorant racist in-bred pricks. That's the whole point. Stop playing the victim, admit you're just mad because globalization didn't work in your favor. Trump won't help you in that regard, your skills are now replaced by smarter people (regardless of race or gender).

True. The NBA did have a "thug" problem in the late 90s early to mid 2000s (See Denver Nuggets starting 5 w/ Melo, Iverson, Birdman, J.R. Smith) Part of that was because a lot of these kids were recruited from the Rucker Park-like playgrounds that were rough, and they came from hard places. That was basically before these kids started getting integrated into these AAU systems. Now these kids from these rough areas get out of the ghetto environment in a way, join up on an AAU team funded by some rich dick, and it basically helps them just be a ball player while getting them out of the ghetto, and its organized.

Just look at the top 50 or so HS players coming out each year. Almost all of them have played on an AAU team since freshman year of high school, they probably played for the U21 USA Basketball team. The system basically makes sure to keep track of all these kids so they get all the good ones instead of losing them to life situations, or losing them to a lack of structure.

I prefer the mid 90s era of basketball though. No social media bullshite, no gang banger look

Some dont understand that. If you don't share the same political views they want nothing to do with you.

FOXNews is a juggernaut bro. When Glenn Beck offended with his comments, people complained, advertisers pulled away, and FOXNews pulled his plug. So yeah, I'm comparing the two.
It's a juggernaut in the cable news niche, but that pales into comparison to network television, let alone the NFL.

To put it into perspective, Glenn Beck had about 2 to 3 million viewers for his show. 2 million viewers watched the Patriots-Texans (without Tom Brady) Thursday night game ON TWITTER alone. That's not even considering the broader appeal of sports; Fox News is primarily watched by right-leaning individuals, and Glenn Beck had an even narrower appeal.

Besides the NFL is far broader than just Goodell and people don't watch the NFL for an unseen commissioner (in fact probably the opposite) with an irrational opinion.

In other words, very few people are going to stop watching their team play because a person who is already unpopular had an irrational view.

Very true.

I look at the "malice in the palace" in '04 as a kind of line of demarcation between the "thug" NBA and the "hipster" NBA.

I quite a few years ago. All it is are arrogant athletes who detest their viewers. They are getting filthy rich and they hate us for the most part.

It's time to shrug.

Pops can get away with this because the customer base of the NBA agrees with him.

Goodell is just making it worse for the NFL as too many trump voters are NFL fans and ratings were already in a nose dive after Kaep.

That and he's also an extremely well-respected basketball mind. He's entrenched--he has a lot of leeway to speak his mind without jeopardizing his position.

Well-earned leeway.

I remember exactly where I was that day. Funny story, maybe you heard it, but Ron Artest (frick calling him Metta World Peace) actually talks everyday to the guy who threw the beer at him.

Despite his inability to control his anger in the past, I've always thought Ron Artest was a pretty good guy--when not in an uncontrollable rage.
