Yeah, sure.

Feel free to exchange your US dollars for Russian rubles if you're so confident that Russia is the victor.

The dollar buys you 20% more Russian rubles now than it did a year ago.

Its reported Russia has nearly 9,000 nukes. Kind of gives them some relevance.

Not sure having something that you won't use translates to relevance. How many does the US have?

In my opinion any nation with nukes has global standing.

I believe the U.S. has less than Russia's number. Russia has roughly half of the planet's total number of nukes.

It use to be called "walking softly and carrying a big stick."

What Putin has done is called "kicking up the leaves and rattling the cage."

It is relevant.

Not really. At that point Bush was a lame duck president and the whole world knew it. It was just a couple of months before the presidential election and Bush wasn't going to make himself the issue with a third war. Putin knew that and he also knew what we knew that Obama was likely to win and was nothing but an American hating community organizer.

seriously? Some of you people try sooooo hard to put shite on Obama. The funny thing is you really dont have to try this hard.

Look. Putin doesnt give a shite who the POTUS is. NO ONE is going to do a damn thing about a small non-NATO piece of land being invaded right on Russia's border, and Putin knows it.

Now if Putin screws with a NATO country, then yes hes basically calling the US a paper tiger.

America is NOT a superior country because of Obama...so your argument fails. Putin has done some good for his country, and Obama has been an abject failure both domestically and internationally by any measure conceivable.

Why you still support this failure in the WH is beyond me.

Putin shuts off the gas...Europe goes dark.

To try and paint like they have no standing is as pathetic as Obozo's foreign policy.

Putin is a total arse but at least when he says he's going to do something, he does it. And not just for the next photo-op either.

If he was running this country, Iran would hand over all its nukes, North Korea's leader would commit suicide (maybe a murder-suicide if he can take Dennis Rodman out), and the gay marriage crowd would stop cramming its views down everyone's throat.

For those who admire Putin's leadership qualities and being a "man of his word".

Explosion of Mafia

Putin 1
Obama 0

quote:

“One cannot differentiate between the activities of the [Russian] government and [organised crime] groups”, Spanish prosecutor, Jose Grinda Gonzalez has claimed. Diplomatic cables released by Wikileaks painted a bleak picture: arms trafficking, money laundering, personal enrichment, protection for gangsters, extortion, suitcases full of money and secret offshore bank accounts

Silencing the Opposition

Putin 1
Obama 0

quote:

high profile oligarchs, politicians, journalists and celebrities – including chess master Gary Kasparov – that have been censored, jailed, intimidated, exiled or killed under Putin. When, on a 2007 talk show, political analyst Mikhail Delyagin criticised Putin, he was edited out of the televised version – his disembodied legs eerily left in one shot. Rock group Televisor had its booking on a St Petersburg station cancelled in April after its members partook in a Other Russia demonstration

Freedom of the Press

Putin 0
Obama 1

quote:

Several international organisations, such as Reporters without Borders, have particularly condemned the crackdown on press. The country was ranked 176th for press freedom by Freedom House. In 2006 Anna Politovskaya, a reporter with Novaya Gazeta, an opposition newspaper, and critic of the war on Chechnya, was murdered. She is one of 29 journalists from the paper who have been murdered or died in suspicious circumstances since 2000 – more than two political murders of journalists for each year of Putin’s time in power. Yuri Shchekochikhin was one such vocal opposition journalist who contracted a mysterious illness in 2003, aged 53. Witnessess reported that he suffered fatigue, red blotches on his skin, loss of hair and the gradual collapse of his internal organs. Russian authorities banned an autopsy but, according to Wikipedia, relatives “managed to send a specimen of his skin to London… diagnosis was made of poisoning with thallium” (a poison commonly used by the KGB)

Murder of citizens

Putin 1
Obama 0

quote:

Many questions loom about the numerous deaths and disappearances of Putin’s critics such as pro-democracy campaigner Galina Starovoitova and Sergei Yushenkov, co-chairman of the Liberal Russia party, who were gunned down outside their homes. Famously, the government has been linked to the poisoning of the dissident Russian spy-turned journalist Alexander Litvinenko, who claimed that Putin planted the bombs Moscow in September 1999 as a pretext to the invasion of Chechnya. He was murdered in Britain with highly radioactive toxins. Andrei Lugovoi, the man suspected of the killing, was given a Russian parliamentary seat.

Internet Censorship

Putin 1
Obama 0

quote:

Putin is pushing forward a plan to establish a state-controlled search engine

Personal Enrichment*

Putin 1
Obama 0

quote:

The Guardian, has, however, estimated that Putin has over $40billion including 20 homes, four yachts and 58 aircraft including an airliner with an $18million cabin outfitted by a jeweller. In Russia, 35 per cent of all private wealth is controlled by 110 people. Andrei Kozlov, the first deputy chairman of Russia’s central bank, who strove to eliminate money laundering in the country, was shot and killed in September 2006

Weak & predictable response. Do some research on the real Putin, not the one that Republicans like to portray as a great leader, unless you consider Hitler a great leader too. It is easy to lead when you murder your opposition, control the press, and are stealing from you country - what you and those who think like you don't understand is that Putin could only be a leader in a country like Russia, where all the major institutions are co-opted. He can't operate in the open. But he can obviously convince the simple minded.
