Theyre apparently very offended at how much power Macron is gathering and his anti terorist stance.

“Three transgressions in one day,” the newspaper Le Monde said in an editorial on Mr. Macron on Thursday, referring to Versailles, Mr. Trump’s invitation and Mr. Macron’s refusal to grant a traditional Bastille Day interview.
quote:
“It’s a very personalized way of wielding power, very Bonapartist,” Mr. Savary said.
“Here we are, with the first consul,” he continued, alluding to Napoleon’s final steppingstone before empire. “There’s this prodigious ease of movement. He’s permanently taking the initiative.”
quote:
On the security front, exceptional measures — particularly searches and seizures and house arrests — will now essentially be decided by Mr. Macron’s Interior Ministry, with little review from the judicial branch.
The ministry can also decide to close down mosques if it does not like what is being said in them. Never mind that none of these measures have stopped further terrorist attacks since 2015.

You apparently have terrible reading comprehension skills.

I may need to reconsider my stance on Macron. Potentially not the cuck we all thought.

Napoleon in France vs Hitler in the US should be an interesting matchup

I wish I could be in charge of something like this.

the entire article is about how he's too Authoritarian and how everyone is opposed to him. It discusses immigration, mosques and terrorism directly, while not forgetting to complain about Trump. Am I missing something?

Napoleon! He and French cooking are the best things that ever happen to France.

I can see how frenchies might admire Bone for making them at least appear to have a backbone in his day, but this is clearly written to make it seem like a bad thing.

He also wants to quickly reform France's labor laws. Previous attempts have been derailed by labor unions, so he is pushing for quick passage of some reforms and implementing others by presidential decree. The socialists are really starting to hate him.

No, it's a breakdown about how some view he is wielding power. It does not say everyone is opposed to him at all. It does not say that he is literally Napoleon. The article doesn't even say that if he was Napoleon-esque that it's a bad thing. It's just giving what some people in France are saying.

It uses a few examples of how he is taking a more centralized and direct approach to things as opposed to how it was done in more recent times. The bit from Trump was from a larger article in Le Monde which is basically the most powerful paper in France. They shouldn't mention what a widely read news source is saying in it's headlines when talking about a guy that wasn't well known worldwide before he was elected?
quote:
Am I missing something?
Yes. It's not actually calling him Napoleon. It's simply noting that some of his critics in France seem to think he is wielding power in a similar manner rather than like Charles de Gaulle who he often quotes. Also, this is all on domestic issues. If he was literally Napoleon he'd be gearing up for for some very major wars for territorial expansion.

Also, something like shutting down Mosques? That isn't representative of Napoleon at all. He was very much a huge proponent of religious tolerance.
When he came into power, people treated Jews like shite in France. They wanted them kicked the frick out of the country.
His stance?
"I will never accept any proposals that will obligate the Jewish people to leave France, because to me the Jews are the same as any other citizen in our country. It takes weakness to chase them out of the country, but it takes strength to assimilate them."
He was also friendly w/Muslims and accepted many refugees from Egypt. The unfortunate ones who stayed once he was deposed were massacred in pogroms.
The guy was HUGE into equality and believed all Frenchmen were and should be treated the same regardless of their religion.

I wonder how the EU feels about this.

Problem is that almost all of them who migrated to France and rest of EU have no desire to assimilate into the European culture.. They are actually assimilating the EU Culture into their fundamental Islamic culture that they came from.
