According to his OMB director Mulvaney:
quote:

Trump, in addition to the 2018 increase, will also seek a $30 billion in supplemental defense money for the fiscal year 2017, a senior administration official told CNN. Mulvaney said some funding for the border wall will be included that measure.

Can't even wait for the next fiscal year to accelerate that deficit spending. And what's this about a wall being funded thru supplemental defense appropriations? LINK

Personally, IDGAF how the wall is funded.

Just build the damn thing and start on it tomorrow.

I mean, criticism of the wall and increased spending is fair, but it seems to me that guarding our own border is the most "defense" thing we could actually spend defense money on.

Why? You think a wall would improve our chances of deterring a war with Mexico, or winning one should it happen?

I don't know. I see the likelihood of such a thing as vanishingly small to begin with. As would be the likelihood of us not annihilating them without raising a sweat. Seems like a very poor use of resources, and we've already got far too much of that to begin with.

The vast majority of our defense spending is a poor use of resources in my opinion. If we're making a list of shite that is a poor use of resources, a wall on our own border to keep out illegal aliens or violent cartels(which can easily be described as a defense function) is very low on that list.

Rampant poor use of resources is a pretty poor justification for even more of it.

Well I don't see it as a poor use of resources.

For instance, illegal immigration is far greater threat to this country than IsIS could ever dream of being.

For years I've been advocating a very easy and cheap solution to Mexican illegal immigration. Land mines. They cost 4 dollars apiece. Trump could probably haggle it down to 3 dollars. Then some very cheap signage. The media will handle the marketing for free.

No, that was my argument. You in fact said it was one of the most appropriate uses of resources allocated for defense. I just don't see much of a national security threat coming from that direction, unless we're using some weird notion of national security. I think we'd probably agree that we've gone overboard in other areas

The wall is such an absurd waste of money, but I'm not surprised you don't give a frick what Trump does because he's Trump. If Obama were planning the same level of spending you'd be losing your mind.

I would assume that is the answer our president is hoping to hear.

Exactly right. It's sad (and kind of funny in a morbid way) to see his supporters engage in the level of mental gymnastics necessary to override their cognitive dissonance.

On a wall? Hell no.

But Obama would use the money to build golf courses in the ghetto.

You'd still need a high double fence with the mines in between or animals such as deer will trigger the mines.
