A North Korean official reaffirmed Pyongyang's commitment to developing a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching "all the way to the East coast of the mainland US," on Monday, telling CNN that the rogue nation is currently not interested in diplomacy with the US until it achieves that goal.

This has always been the goal. NK has been playing the long game for decades, and they finally are close enough to admit it.

They want to test a nuclear bomb above ground, and launch an ICBM that is capable of hitting DC, then they will sit down.

I don't see how we and our allies can let that happen.

I assume Russia knows that one or both of those tests are imminent hence their public removal of support from DPRK.

This is the closest we've been to a full fledged invasion/conflict since the Cold War.

When will people wake up?

They will hold us off with talks until they can inflict harm upon us.
Then they will tell us to frick off.

We need to nip this in the bud.

Amen. They realize how stupid and weak our politicians are.

They've taken advantage of DC for decades.

That's exactly what is going on. Once they demonstrate the capability, they will make their demands for aid and support while holding a gun against our heads, knowing well that our success rate in anti missile defense tests is 60% at best.

Exactly. It's so obvious.

I have the impression that Russia supports North Korea in this effort.

When the bombs start flying I doubt Russia will support them.

That's pretty much been Trump's strategy

Trump have already threatened the turn Pyongyang into glass, and they're still rejecting diplomacy.

I think we'll look back as today being the straw that broke the camel's back. The DPRK is going to test a nuke or an ICBM and we will do something militarily.

Especially since we have our joint exercises going on there now. We are ready to go.

I dunno. Let's say NK gets a capable missile and launches 10 our way. Say 60% success rate of shooting them down, so at best 4 hit the US. Say they targeted the upper atmosphere for bring down the grid and targeted DC while the president and cabinet, congress, and most of the upper brass were in town. Say 2 hit DC and 2 explode in atmosphere bringing down 70-80% of the grid.

You'd have mass chaos and no forms of communication, along with most of the leadership killed.

I'm not convinced Russia or China would help us. They'd be more apt to launch an invasion while we were crippled in order to become the top powerhouse nation. I'm not sure how Europe would react honestly...id hope they'd come to our aid.

The whole 60% success rate is being over blown here. Thats in controlled tests where they try to take 1 down with a single shot.

In real life applications they take multiple shots

They also take a while to get prepped. We wouldn't allow that.

The main issue is the artillery pointed at Seoul.

That will kill a lot of people including American soldiers, their families, and US citizens in SK.

It would be a disaster unless we can create a coup within NK with a pre-emtive nuclear attack.

There isn't a great option, but letting NK obtain ICBMs and hydrogen bombs isn't either.

I think we are close to going fo a military strategy, maybe a targeted strike on Pyongyang, and see what they do.

It's either than, or just no holds barred pure oblivion.
